Cop held for taking bribe

"He allegedly demanded R1,000 in order to withdraw a case and release a suspect from police custody"

The cop failed to keep his side of the bargain, so she laid a charge against him

A police constable has been arrested for allegedly soliciting and taking a bribe, North West police said on Tuesday.

"He allegedly demanded R1,000 in order to withdraw a case and release a suspect from police custody," spokesman Lt-Col Lesego Metsi said.

The 33-year-old constable was arrested on Monday in Mmabatho.

Metsi said the constable overheard a pub owner tell another officer she wanted to withdraw a case against a suspect who was already in custody.

"The police officer rightly advised the woman to approach the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court, as it was procedural to go to court to withdraw a case formally."

The constable then cornered the woman and allegedly told her he could withdraw the case if she paid him R1,000.

The money was paid in two instalments of R500, but the constable failed to keep his side of the bargain.

The woman then laid a charge against the constable.

He is expected to appear in the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court on corruption charges soon.

Bargain with SAPS

Some of the stories are just hilarious (even though some are sad) and you just have to wonder what is happening to Mzansi.

Some stories make you feel surreal, numb, gobsmacked, angry.............. Mzansi for sure

I've noted that police r not scared to ask for money, the one came to my work place last week even said he's not paid enough, think we know that already, police salary is not for one to be rich, but to buy food and get a girlfriend!

It takes two to tango. At least he only took the money. Can you imagine what she would have to do if she also gave the constable a shag? There is nothing like unscrew or unshag in sex. You just get screwed more.
