The fact that it happened at "Initiation school" make it a men's tradition

Ponko, in case you did not notice, young men have been stabbing each other at normal schools too the past few years. One even did a whole Samurai sword killing, so the fact that this happened at an initiation school is just a minor little detail, and not worth discussing. The new tradition of young men drinking and killing is cause for great concern.

Women....let me point you towards the right direction

being nosey sometimes leads you astray:

Killings happen everywhere and anywhere....schools, church, parks, roads, hospitals, work....etc

the fact that the killing happened at an initiation school has no bearing on the value and or purpose of initiation schools....the boys are not taught to drink and stab each other there...but moments of isolated madness happen everywhere...when the elders/leaders are not present...some boys forget what they were thought in the afternoon and especially under the influence...do things that do not go hand in hand with what is thought there
Its like you women installing discipline to your kids....but when you are not around...they use profanity, watch sexually explicit content...now, we cant blame the mothers and say "we hold no value in your parental skills"

Initiation (school) was not an open subject. Lebolo (nitiation) was never discussed in public not a public domain and the the place (school) where it took place was sacred.

-Only a certain group of men were allowed at the "mountain"
-they had to stay celebate for the duration of the "course",
- cutting of the fore.skin was not just a responsibility given to anyone (you had to have credentials)
- there was so much respect for lebolo;
- the purpose was just not "to turn boys into men" but to teach them about the intricacies of life
-it was not a money making scheme but a rite of passage

@Ponko.Fontoyo

- there was so much respect for lebolo;
- the purpose was just not "to turn boys into men" but to teach them about the intricacies of life
-it was not a money making scheme but a rite of passage

What must I do with this rubbish?I really respected you,but you have just lost that respect.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not rubbish, I was just enlightening .......... lebolo is a sotho word for initiation (in case you were lost in translation)

Was that necessary?How is it relevant to the article?

my initial comment clearly said: To The "Women".....meaning every woman that commented here was entitled to answer that question...and MsKinkya did exactly that....

Now my response was to all women that answered my question....there were more than 3...you included....NOW...why do you want special treatment...? whats so special about you that you want to leave the others outside the topic...?? breath in and out...maybe you will comprehend a little bit better

With all due respect Sir, I did not give an alternative of where they should go. Chances are that you would agree with me that in most districts you get young men who are still fresh from the mountain looking after these young & vulnerable boys. How much knowledge will a young “man” of 15 for example pass to an initiate? What’s on the initiation school syllabus today? “How to rape young girls and old ladies 101”, “How to disrespect parents 101”, “How to never go back to school 101”, How to smoke dagga, do drugs & drink alcohol 101”, forget the latter they have probably passed the subject even before they went to the initiation school.

When you look for negatives...one tends to build his own negatives in his own mindset....if you cared to know what is taught up there....how about doing yourself the favour of visiting and learning there first hand...

all that you have written in no different from a person labelling that a certain group of people to be this, this and that...with no basis of objectivity whatsoever....(im running away from labelling)

Lastly, I did say to you....if you marginalise stuff...you will lose focus of the bigger picture...for example....lets say in the EC during this December period....1000 boys go to the mountain...out of the 1000....only 100 come back doing all these things you mention....and thats only 10%....now...would that 10% justify that tradition be changed all together...?? hhe??

In all walks of life.... human behaviour is not guaranteed and you cant attribute a single cause to negative outcomes....so before marginalising and labelling everything....sit down and think of the bigger picture....you cant blame tradition for human behaviour....its so simple really
