Training for inept teachers

INCOMPETENT teachers in North West will be sent for training on different subjects according to their competency levels, MEC for education Louisa Mabe said.

Mabe was delivering the provincial Annual National Assessment results at Cookes Lake in Mahikeng.

She said the department wanted to have a teachers' institute for "thorough training".

Mabe said the institute would give emphasis on professionalism, learning skills, knowledge and quality teaching.

It was important to assess the competency levels of the teachers, she said .

Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati and Ngaka Modiri Molema were said to be the worst performing districts.

Mabe said she expected more work to be done in schools. - tshehleb@sowetan.co.za
