Traffic cop jailed over bribe

A Free State traffic officer was sentenced to three years in prison for asking for a bribe of cash and food from a truck driver, police said on Monday.

Macdough Mochoari, 41, was found guilty of corruption by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday, said Sergeant Fikiswa Matoti.

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Matoti said the crime took place near Glen, north of Bloemfontein, in March.

The police urged motorists to report corruption.
