Dad drives over daughter, aged 2

He heard nothing and was only informed later that the little girl had been hit in the driveway

A Ladismith father is in a state of shock after learning that he drove over his 2-year-old daughter in the driveway of their home.

Annieka Nel later died of her injuries in hospital, reported Die Burger.

Rudi Nel said he got up early on the farm Van Zylsdamme to go to work and saw his little girl Annieka was awake.

“I told her to get into bed with her mother so that I could go to work,” said Nel.

He went to the garage, checked the bakkie’s oil and water and switched off the light, locking the door, got into his bakkie and drove to work.

He heard nothing and was only later informed via radio that Annieka had been hit in the driveway.

“I am deeply shocked. It’s every parent’s nightmare. She was daddy’s little girl.”

Nel and wife Marion also have a 2-month-old baby boy.

Sometimes I honestly believe in destiny, this is how the little girl was supposed to go and there is nothing you could have done about it, so I truly feel sorry for the whole family, sometimes things happen that we really did not expect and here is very little you can do to avoid the situation, RIP...

this is a bad thing to happen to any parent but I believe that if he applied the K53 checks before driving he would have avoided this kind of a thing. It looks stupid when you do it and have been driving for years but in this case it would have saved a life. And this is not the 1st story I hear of someone driving over a kid who was under the car playing or crawling through.
