Pyjama speedster arrested

“Although he was clad in pyjamas, he claimed that he was rushing to pick up his colleague as they were late for work”

Two motorists, one of them in his pyjamas, and a motorcyclist were arrested for speeding in Benoni on Saturday, Ekurhuleni traffic officials said.

A driver in a black Mercedes Benz was arrested when he was caught driving 142km/h in a 80km/h zone on Snake Road, Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said.

“Although he was clad in pyjamas, he claimed that he was rushing to pick up his colleague as they were late for work.”

A 38-year-old man in a red Mercedes Benz was caught doing 134km/h, and a 44-year-old biker was clocked going at 136km/h on the same stretch of road. The former gave no reasons for speeding, while the latter claimed he was en route to take a look at Carnival City as he planned to take his family there on Sunday.

A total of 241 motorists were clocked exceeding the speed limit and would get their fines in the post.

All three arrested speedsters were released on bail of R1,000 each and were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
