Waterfront hot spot for cheating

A large number of people who cheat on their partners in Cape Town use the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront to conduct their "business affairs", a survey reported.

In a recent poll of 5020 people, almost 70 percent said they used hotels to conduct affairs, according to infidelity site AshleyMadison.com.

A third of these splashed out on the One & Only Waterfront hotel, with the Table Bay Hotel and the Cape Grace not far behind. All of these are in the tourist hotspot.

Fourth and fifth places went to hotels in Camps Bay and Newlands.

The website's CEO, Noel Biderman, said it made sense to choose hotels in the city from a logistical point of view.

"For the career man or woman, who must juggle their work day and still arrive back home with some 'guilt flowers'... it hardly makes sense to gap it beyond the city," he said.

Hotels were a popular option because they offered discretion, he said.

According to the poll, almost half of cheaters went to hotels between noon and 5pm.

A large number of rooms were used for only up to two hours.
