Soweto lawyer bust for dealing dope
'Advocate handed a bag of dagga to two accused in court'
A Soweto advocate has been arrested for allegedly dealing in dagga, Gauteng police said on Friday.
“He was arrested at the Protea Magistrate’s Court this morning,” said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.
“He was there for another case when we arrested him.”
The advocate would be detained at the Maroka police station, and was expected to appear in court either on Friday or next week Monday.
On Thursday, police said he handed a bag of drugs to two accused in court.
“One of them was appearing on a theft charge and his lawyer allegedly passed a bag to someone in the gallery,” Makhubela said at the time.
“When the hearing had finished, the man in the gallery handed the bag back to the man in the dock, but police intercepted it and found it contained six packets of dagga.”
The advocate then fled the court [only to be arrested today].
The two accused now also face a charge of possession of dagga.
