And it starts right here, with hate-speech, rampant racial intolerance, pervasive homophobia and xenophobia. Basically with the manner in which readers seem to be incapable of tolerating anything that does not conform to the small world defined by their particular obsessions, whether these be religious, "traditional" or just plain obtuse. I am constantly amazed by the extremes demonstrated by supposedly decent people as a result of self-imposed and determined ignorance.

In hate crimes, the perpetrator selects his or her victim for some discriminatory reason such as race, nationality, gender, or sexual orientation.

I'm not surprised...I sense that the laws will target Christians mostly for hate crimes. So the laws will actually form a way of gagging them so as Satan and his henchmen can get their way. Reminds me of the Dark Ages, No human law or death threat kept the likes of John Huss, Jerome, Martin Luther etc. from uttering the TRUTH. History repeats itself.

Don't see this working. If you attack someone because they are gay is it really worse than attacking someone because you are just wanting a fight? We already have laws that cover most of the 'hate crimes' and proving others would be damn near impossible.

About damn time!

Our society is in dire need of harsh(er) punitive measures as far as "hate" crimes are concerned.

I dont understand why people "hate" on another's sexual preference or race... quite idiotic...

A law for hate crimes which among others, protects foreigners against the so called xenophobia,
I guess farm murders and murders of other South Africans by foreigners will obviously not fall under that law but be handled the same as it is now under existing systems?
That suggested law is to some selfish sections of our society,in their small world, more urgent than bringing in a special law and special courts for Drug offences e.t.c.,just because they derive some financial benefits and things like cheap labour and who knows what, from foreigners, they suggest a law that will protect them before one that will serve most if not all South Africans.
I say a special law and special courts for drug dealers and other drug offences is more urgent and more easier to prove and prosecute than trying to prove that someone was slapped because he/she is a foreigner or whatever.

I support the proposed law for everything else it stands for except for the so called xenophobia.
Even as things are now,the so called xenophobia is being used by foreign criminal elements to shield them from harsh consequences of their atrocities against S.A. people.
Imagine what will the case be under extra special protection of this new law when all foreigners will know that any cry of xenophobia, will be treated special and the perpetrator dealt with swiftly with minimum sentences, media and all,yet when they do the same against a South African, its the normal prcesses with no special attention.
The murderes, robberies, poaching, rapes, cable thefts and other crimes by foreigners on S.A. people, animals and infrastructure will spike under this newly found extra protection for foreigners.
Yes for the law but, dont include the infamous xenophobia in it because it has evolved to mean something else here in S.A.....media protection for criminal foreigners. Now we cant let it also mean court protection for those criminals as well.

@Warren - Please enlighten us about any instance where any foreign person or criminals has ever escaped the arm of the law by pleading xenophobia??? Your two comments only exposed your deep seethed hatred of foreigners and has nothing to with the proposed law.As far as i know foreigners are not given any special treatment by South Africans as they are deeply and openly hated by them. The only time a foreigner get a break is when he bribes a police man so i don't why you are trying to make it look like foreigners are treated like kings& Queens in South Africa.

You make it sound like only foreigners commit crimes and that alone shows that you have a very low IQ as well as a low self esteem. If you had any common sense you will realize that a criminal is a criminal regardless of whether he is a foreigner or a South African. The law that is being proposed is long overdue law because it will deal with people like you who go around spreading your poison of hate.Your hate of foreigners is general regardless of if the person is a criminal or not.It is people like you who gang up on foreigners and attack them just because they are different and not because they have done something.

If you are not a xenophobe why will you want xenophobia excluded from the law??? It is a simple question with an obvious answer.

When you started engaging me on this forum i thought you were just a passive xenophobe but over the past year i come to realize that you really do HATE foreigners. Maybe a foreigner or some foreigners did something that scarred you emotionally,i don't know. One thing i know is that this hate you have for foreigners will eat you up one day.I see you sound miserable ,i suggest you get professional or spiritual help brother.Don't hang on to the past or hate an entire people because of what one of them did to you.Get rid of the hate in your heart and live a happy life.

So in all earnesty, what drove you to post this lenghty response to my posts?
The need to challenge the exclusion of xenophobia from the proposed law because in your little mind, you think if you dont challenge my call,it could be excluded?
Very brilliant and very noble of you in your own shallow space.

So you sit there and visualize this South African named Warren, who actually HATES every single foreigner that walks the land of S.A? Each and every one of the five million odd foreigners here, all hated by Warren?
And you believe your shallow brain when it tells you that there is a normal human being that is capable of so much hate without something being wrong with their brain? because why then would you bother to even respond to such an obviously tormented soul?
You are extremely shallow man. So much for someone that wants to go on line and call me names like low I.Q.
There are millions of a type of foreigner who's presence in our country I always challenge and will always challenge because of the manner that they enter our country and the manner in which they conduct themselves in our country.ironically, that type of foreigner is usually a Nigerian and a Zimbo.Occasionally there is the odd Moz and Mosotho among those foreigners and if you are talking about those two groups of foreigners when you say I hate foreignrs, yes I loath that type of foreigner in my country because of their conduct. NOT ALL FOREIGNERS. I have things to do so.....

So what is h ate. People will want all kinds of criticism to be included like criticising Jesus or Allah - this has happened in the UK. Before we rush off and curtail our free speech - THINK. If dropping coffee on a picture of Zuma is defined as hate, will you like that.

@RobinX - I rather have people expressing unfounded sentiments based on ignorance than having a completely sanitised forum where people have to watch everything they say. The majority should not be silenced because of the few. Remember the satirical column on Dis Grace Muga be - would you rather it was not written.

@Warren - We would not have the "foreigner" problem if we had told Mugabe to go after he lost the election. I know many foreigners especially Zimbabweans and they are doing good work educaating South African kids and also kids of foreigners. There are not only criminals among them but intellectuals.

Wake up people! The ruling party keeps racism alive so that it can maintain its power.
Take note how they bring up all the unhappy events of the past just before elections. Everytime we start to settle down in this country and start to exercise true democracy, they make you angry so that forget the poor service delivery and unemployment issues.
Wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DA is helping them by been racists too, so we only chose by color because we are afraid that things might be worst for us in white leadership. Just take for example private companies ran by whites, you are nothing as a black person and all promotions favours whites. Imagine if they have to lead in the country?

Mopheme: Please don't flatter yourself. I have absolutely no feelings regarding you atr all, other than finding your completely unwarranted suggestions of hatred and veiled threats rather silly and an unfortunate irritant. Please have a pleasant day and weekend.

Pointman, please grant me some IQ. There is a radical difference between barbed satire and deliberately hurtful expressions of rabid hatred. poking fun at someone is not quite the same as threatening someone with violence, or using completely mindless name-flinging. I thought you capable of better than that.
