Iyoh! That is a lame excuse. There are many countries in 3rd world countries that have poor hospital working conditions but have competent stuff. A good example will be India, a country known to produce best doctors in the world. Can Sowetan please specify the nationality of these doctors please. We want to know, I won't be surprised if 80% are African foreigners( excuse my pun, I do not mean to be Xenophobic) Report Abuse

Miss80. Poor disguise there lady. you make an utterly xenophobic statement and then say you don't mean it. Shame on you. To me the real issue, looking at several examples over the past few months, is that administrators vetting people applying for senior positions in hospitals and clinics are not doing their job. People with false credentials and even criminal records are blandly appointed to positions of management in hospitals over the heads of hard-working competent people whi as a result become disillusioned and leave. Why not sommer ask for the colour of their hair and eyes, maybe shoe-size. These aspects are as relevant as nationality - in other words, not relevant at all. Report Abuse

They can afford to pay 1.4 billion for stuffups but they can't afford to employ enough doctors and nurses so that the stuffups don't happen in the first place?

The health system is in disarray. No arguments. But lets look at some issues this story raises.
1. The dishonesty of the report.
Its obvious from the body of the story that the 248 found guilty included nurses. I'd like to know what the proportion of nurses to doctors is in clear and unambiguous language.
2. The intention of this type of reporting.
Its clear to me that its meant to fuel the ever increasing rage we all feel about the government's gross incompetence. But lies and distortions create a false reality in which very poor decision making becomes the most likely result. I for one don't want that.
3. Also from the report its clear that legal vultures have seen the opportunity to attack the rotting corpse of our medical system. In this they can be assured of a quick and easy buck because of the huge pressure they put on the incompetent and uncaring medical administration.
4. The systemic failures brought about by this governot.
In its pursuit of instant wealth at the expense of the people this crew of criminals sitting in big offices and driving from one luxury to the next is breaking the country's ability to provide for its citizens.
This is a crime against humanity. Anyone supporting the anc is now guilty of furthering the aims of human rights criminals.
well I guess they are trying to keep up with the incompetence at top level (ie leaders of the country) must say they really inspire INCOMPETENCE hence every sector is not functioning at the capacity it should.
don't worry incompetent nurses and doctors you are now part of the team of incompetents running the country aground, if you continue at the incompetence path you just might get yourselves jobs as executives in the gov.
I am not surprised at all.
And btw why is Moetsoeledi not resigning? cause the incompetents staff in his dept must have caused immeasurable damage to the service users, but then its unSAn for ministers to resign when their depts have been caught napping. Report Abuse

South Africa is rigged with corruption from top to tale and the saddest thing uneducated people are leaders oh yes look the educational credentials of Malema, Zuma and Motshekga they are zero and we do not need these people in our beautiful organisation, how do we expect the doctors and nurses to be perfect whereas there is nobody looking after their needs? The only thing you hear about these professionals is bullying and harrassment from both the officials and public .
Unfortunately the unions never help the nurses and doctors and I really do not understand why people join them, because when its time for increament they will get their money and if there is an inquiry the lawyers are there, unions never help these professionals hence there is this bashing of them.
