Lerato Matane, 28, on Friday listened as magistrate Pius Maseng of the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court sentenced the man who nearly killed her to six years' imprisonment.

Sydney Mpolaisa, 44, was sentenced to three years for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and another three years for contravening a protection order .

"I wish he could have got a longer sentence so that he matures a bit," Matane said.

She said in the first incident, she was walking in the street with her daughter when her boyfriend stopped her, told her that it was the end and then poured petrol over her head.

In the second incident, she was coming from church when she found him waiting for her in their backroom. "Before I could think, he threw a bucket full of acid over me," she said.

Surely this is attempted murder!!! Judges needs to be tested before they appear in court for levels of intoxication or something like that. How is this sentence aligned to the perpetrator's actions
