A Cape Town man recovered his R65,000 custom built mountain bike the same day it was stolen by spotting it on a classifieds website
John Wilkinson’s Santa Cruz bike was stolen from his garage last Thursday, after only having had it for a few days.
He saw it advertised on the Gumtree website just hours after it was pinched and phoned a friend, tyre shop owner Waleed Baker, to help him get it back.
“I arranged to respond to the Gumtree advertisement and the person made contact with Waleed and me. The guy arrived at Pitstop [shop] and I waited in the office while Waleed spoke to him,” Wilkinson told the newspaper.
He came out the office, identified his bike, and told the man he was in possession of stolen property.
Baker took the bike and the man drove off.
Milnerton police have yet to track him down.

Dof thief and even more dof victim. Goes to meet the guy without the cops. Watches the guy drive off but didn't note the registration number. So fine, he got his bike, but the thief is gone and will NEVER be traced.Report Abuse
