Phosa stands up for the president

Oct 12, 2012 | Hlengiwe Nhlabathi Political Reporter | 56 comments

ANC treasurer-general Mathews Phosa yesterday defended President Jacob Zuma when a senior opposition leader labelled him a "male chauvinist" whose leadership and efforts at nation building did not match that of his predecessors.

Indeed there is no way we can compare Nelson Mandela and Thabo with Zuma. The former wo are nationalists, intellects, nation builders, Africanists and estowed leaders whereas Zuma is indeed a male chauvinist, who has failed to unify the ANC, and under whose leadership the ANC has lost its credibility. He has made horrendous judgments in his appointments, such as, that of Adv.Simelane, Jimmy Manyi and others. Busy utilizing more than R 208 m to improve his Nkandla homestead. Zuma is the worst president i have ever seen in the country. He is even not able to read a prepared speech. He lacks charisma....Come Mangaung.

@ RobinH - I THINK he is trying to say he denies Zuma is a male chauvenist and he is defending him against the "attack".

If Zuma makes it at the Mangaung conference there will no ANC to talk about after his second term. The man must quit now while he has a chance of a dignified exit. If he wins, I suspect that there may be a ruthless plot to get rid of him once and for all, one that will see him behind bars for life, and he would not be able to pull a Schabir.

If any blogger will be in Mangaung please assamblief make sure Zuma does not get elected as president. Those that want a second term for him are those who are benefitting from the chaos and disorder in government and want the status quo to remain.

Zuma is the most stupid president this country has ever had after P.W. Botha. He has dragged our country on the mud on several occasions. He sleeps around and impregnate women all over. He's got 5 wives but continues to cheat on them without using protection, risking chances of contracting HIV/AIDS and infecting all of them. Zuma has no principles, morals or values. He's a disgrace to ANC and our country in particular because as head of state he represents the nation. He's utterly disgusting.

Mr Phosa was not reosoning on facts but emotions and denial. We all know hellen zille is having her own weakness but cant be compared to zuma,in actual fact since south africa was a union this is the most weakest president.Even those apartheid leaders were good in implimenting their policies of seggregations agaist blacks.
Zuma is just sitting on his balls waiting for a salary every month.

Mrazane: Yes I know, I sort of figured that out. I am just so sick of having to work out what politicians "mean to say" as opposed to what they actually say. Phosa in particular should be perfectly capable of using unambiguous language. Instead, they toss sloppy phrases about, which of course opens the gap for the "I am being misinterpreted" excuse.

if DA likes Mbeki that much, why dont they aproach him to be their chief in command? he might lead them to destruction, like he almost took this country to the cleaners, most of the dodgy and corruption deals that are still going on today, started during Mbeki's reign, the Shaiks, Gupters, the Ncukas, and to mention but a few!

Agreed, corruption has been around for a long time, but it is patently obvious that it has reached epidemic proportions under our current bunch of stooges.

I think Mr Phosa's stance is correct and it does not mean that his stance about the dictatorship creeping into the ANC has changed.

In the case on Mr James' utterances, Mr Phosa is simply defending his leader against the attack by an opposition party skelm. It would make sense for a normal son or duaghter to defend his father, whom he/she dislikes because of a family disgareement, against an outsider who attacks the father.

Here Mr Phosa is showing discipline - defending the president of the organisation he belongs to. This is normal to me and nothing untoward about it.

You people keep on singing the same old song about Zuma's private deeds behind closed doors instead of at least focussing on the good that the man is doing in his 3 yrs on the throne. Education alone does not make one a good leader either, take Mugabe for instance, and your overated Mbeki. I do believe that man studied economics in the UK during exile while our leaders including Zuma were in jail. But during his reign in the late 90's, the rand reached almost R9 against the US$. Open your eyes and learn to give some credit where its due.

Mhambuma: WHat good might that be? His great contribution to the AIDS debate? His wonderful role in the emancipation of women? The magificent way he has guided our economy. Don't make me laugh, Sir. Education might not make a good leader, but it certainly helps. The real issue, though, is integrity, and with respect, your great leader doesn't know what that means.

Sorry Phosa instead of defending the obvious, you should perhaps explain why you think a man with harem (paid for by tax payers) is not a chauvinist, and why a man who said pregnant teenage girls should be sent to far flung areas as a punishment for their being pregnant when he said nothing about those impregnating those teenage girls and you know that in many cases its old men who are impregnating young girls, so ja he is indeed a 5 star CHAUVINIST P!G!!! until he can prove this charge to be false it is so.
