Sydney Mpolaisa, 44, asked the magistrate to be lenient when sentencing him because it was his first offence.

Mpolaisa was charged with assault with an intent to do grievous bodily harm, damage to property and contravening a protection order that his girlfriend, Lerato Matane, 28, got against him.

In a prepared statement read in court Mpolaisa said he had three children who were attending school.

He also said his ex-wife (the mother of the children) was unemployed.

He said his children were not getting any social grants because he works at the department of health as a messenger.

He allegedly contravened the protection order when he poured petrol on Matane and stabbed her once in the back on August 14, a day after she applied for the protection order.

Magistrate Pius Maseng is expected to sentence him today.

Dont come here asking for a lenient sentence- were you lenient when you stabbed her, and poured petrol and acid on her?! Nxa!!

It really pisses me off, these guys think that they can just get away with it, he shows no remorse whatsoever for his actions and now the judge must be nice to him because he has kids!! I say futsek and serve your time cos he didn't think about his kids when he did what he did.
