Man pleads guilty to pouring acid on lover
A man who allegedly poured acid - and, in another incident, petrol - on his girlfriend, has pleaded guilty to the charges against him in the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court
Sydney Mpolaisa, 44, asked the magistrate to be lenient when sentencing him because it was his first offence.
Mpolaisa was charged with assault with an intent to do grievous bodily harm, damage to property and contravening a protection order that his girlfriend, Lerato Matane, 28, got against him.
In a prepared statement read in court Mpolaisa said he had three children who were attending school.
He also said his ex-wife (the mother of the children) was unemployed.
He said his children were not getting any social grants because he works at the department of health as a messenger.
He allegedly contravened the protection order when he poured petrol on Matane and stabbed her once in the back on August 14, a day after she applied for the protection order.
Magistrate Pius Maseng is expected to sentence him today.
