Wore t-shirt with slogan: 'cleverly disguised as a responsible person'

An alleged drunken driver accused of killing a cyclist wore a T-shirt to court which pokes fun at responsibility, The Herald Online reported on Friday.

Andre Gouws, 27, was given R5,000 bail in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court.

He allegedly knocked down Clem Morris, a Mill Park chartered accountant on Sunday morning while driving on Kragga Kamma Road in Port Elizabeth.

He was allegedly drunk and tried to flee.

Morris died on the scene.

Gouws faces charges of murder, driving under the influence of alcohol, and reckless or negligent driving.

In court on Thursday he wore a T-shirt with the slogan: “Cleverly disguised as a responsible person”, sparking an angry Facebook debate which called him “arrogant” and “unremorseful”.

In his affidavit he apologised to the Morris family.

He would be kept under house arrest during his release on bail.
