President criticises violence by strikers

Oct 11, 2012 | Sapa | 69 comments

The destruction of property and assaulting of people during strikes are unacceptable, says President Jacob Zuma

“We should discourage such activities. They are not good for our country,” he told the Black Business Summit in Midrand, Johannesburg.

“The rights of workers and employers are guaranteed in the Constitution of our country. We have adequate mechanisms to resolve disputes in our country.”

Zuma said the country had lost R4.5 billion in the gold and platinum mining sectors, and R180 million in the coal industry, due to ongoing strikes.

Currently an estimated 75,000 miners and 20,000 truck drivers were on strike.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that we do not reach a crisis point,” Zuma said.

He said that the labour unrest had caused a leading ratings agency to lower the country’s economic outlook. Foreign investors were concerned about the strike and the fact that it could reduce the country’s ability to attract foreign investment.

>>“Our responsibility is to ensure that we do not reach a crisis point,” Zuma said.<<

So what exactly would be a "crisis point" in your not-so-esteemed estimation?

Lives have been lost, people intimidated, property destroyed, our international credit rating downgraded, the country is going down the tubes and you don't think we have a crisis yet?

*shakes head in total disbelief*

Come on DJ you know how things work - sweep things under the carpet/lie/obfuscate until you fall out of favour, then things start to happen (eg malema) and the law can step in, but when all else fails pull the race card and blame apartheid!

DJWinner. So it seems you don't read the paper........ He ducked the issue and was elected. Good God, man, loyalty is admirable, but blindness can make you stumble and fall on a turd.
