Johannesburg City Parks spokeswoman Jenny Moodley said they would meet the family at the grave site today to sort out the confusion.

The headline is misleading - the grave managers are just doing their job. If the headstone is erected on the wrong grave then the same Sowetan will be running an article on municipal incompetence and the family will be crying about trauma and wasted expenditure.

Exhumation is not a priority to us. It will be too traumatic for the family and how is it possible to get DNA from an old corpse," said Padi.

It is possible. Ask @tpaz

@Publc2 - no I am not a lawyer although I work a lot with lawyers. I kind of figured out that these days the truth takes the back seat and people always interpret situations in way that benefits them the most. Therefore when you are negotiating with people you have to anticipate their behaviour and deal with it early if you want to avoid problems in future.

The Municipality must get their facts right, how come the names of Mr and Mrs Padi don't appear in their books?? Also they must know their grave numbers clearly.

Tsar-Rasputin

Please don’t blame the current JHB City parks

The elders passed away respectively in the 60's and 80,s way before the new democratic government. It shows the level of incompetency from the previous administration in the management of information and records
The commitment of City Parks officials to assist is commendable. I am sure Mr Padi last went to the graveside when he was 19,
Now he is 65 years old, 46 years later he wants to claim he knows the location of the grave, that absurd
There are 2 options here:

Option 1
Cityparks must allow him to erect the tombstone at the wrong grave
Or
He must just give then sufficient time to identify the correct grave

Moral of the story: Visit your ancestor’s graves sides continuously so that when they bless u, you know where to erect their tombstones

Thats sad realy to exhum just to put a tomb stone , city council just let them do it , looking at the death year 1966 , its too long, just play a blind eye and let the family go ahead with erecting a tomb stone instead of exhuming the bodies, there is no crime here

Lucas Padi, who was buried at the Doornkop Cemetery in 1966, and his wife, Julia, who was buried in the same grave in 1980.

That was a long time ago..............

Hypotheically they did not erect a tombstone after the father died (1966) to use for the mother, it took a good 32 years ............. eish what it they have been visiting the wrong grave all along...........

TWO WEEKS: "The family has an affidavit, which says they have identified the family grave site," Moodley said. "It takes two weeks for us to verify the grave and it won't involve exhumation. TWO WEEKS.

My wereld!
What's wrong with our "officials?"
Why should it take TWO WEEKS to verify the grave when the family has an affidavit WHEREAS it takes ONE DAY to sort the confusion?

Sasithi amaBhunu were intransigent and incompetent. Methinks, abaholi bethu are worse.

Ain't it ironic that this report was put together by SIFILE!
