This is the most awful thing to do to a person. One is rendered permanently disfigured and it is extremely painful, for a very very long time. Deep tissue is destroyed and extensive reconstruction, sometimes over years, is often necessary just to repair basic functions like nose, smell, eyes. A colleague was attacked in this way by a jealous boyfriend several years ago, and she is still suffering severe pain and has to undergo regular surgery in order to slowly but surely reconstruct her face. The perpetrators are guilty of something far worse than murder.
