Motlanthe releases biography

Motlanthe also bemoans African National Congress leaders for expelling former ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema.

IN LINE: Kgalema Motlanthe

A new biography about Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe reveals how he feels about the ANC and its leadership.

In the book, written by former trade unionist Ebrahim Harvey, Motlanthe expresses unhappiness about how the party's current leadership handles service delivery, the abuse of state organs, and the state of affairs in the ANC.

"Kgalema Motlanthe: A Political Biography" will be released in Johannesburg on October 11.

Motlanthe also bemoans African National Congress leaders for expelling former ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema.

However, he makes it clear in the book that he is part of the leadership and so does not isolate himself from these problems.

An extract from the book reads: "Kgalema's hopes for the new Zuma term were dashed in several major respects, but he does not try to distance himself from the problems. The situation for the poor majority, relations between the ANC and its allies and the state of affairs within the ANC itself are all on the whole very much as they were under [former president Thabo] Mbeki."

Motlanthe dismisses speculation that he will not make himself available for the ANC's top position if President Jacob Zuma stands for the job again. He says no one has approached him yet.

"My position is that nobody must try to canvass for themselves in the run-up to elections," Motlanthe is quoted saying in the book.

"It is up to the will of the branches. But if I am nominated for such a position... I will either accept or decline."

I have a real problem with his insistent support of Malema. He is no fool, so I find this very concerning. But I shall read the book before suggesting that impartiality in today's political environment is virtually impossible.

Can this guy see that his Julius support will cost him the presidency? Is he doing this on purpose to tell Zuma win or what?

The ANC was not equipped for restructuring the country and fixing the wrongs without creating more hurdles. I have been watching how they work and how they deal with issues. The first mistake they did was to build people half brown bread houses, the second mistake was to give tenders to build these pathetic houses instead of living the respective municipalities build these house, which was going to make the local govt an employer of most people who were to occupy these houses and pay for some of the service, third was to not to monitor and inspect the houses been built from the digging of the foundation up to the laying of the concrete for foundation. The ANC has never shown any interest of uprooting corruption, since day one, I have never seen any program put by the Hon. Fmr President of the Republic Tat' uMadiba to deal with corruption. The BEE has been benefiting the ANC since day one that is why today we have Ramaphosa purchasing

if Motlanthe wants to make a meaning change to delivery then he will have a tough time, as he will need to root out the basics of this service delivery program by overhauling the whole system. He will first return to basics, local government need to be the builder of any local programs, no more tenders, education dept will have to handle on its own the book/ stationery and no more tenders.

Secondly the voting system of SA should be reformed, we need to be able to elect on people to represent us in parliament directly and they have to report back once a year to their constituency, that will then ease so many service delivery protest.
Last but not least, he need to get rid of the provincial government, the local and the national government is will be enough, our tax is paying for extra mouths rather than extra pair of hands.

These will be just a fewer things that would make a progress, then immigration, integration of the nation, kings and chiefs will have to be paid by those who benefit from their roles not all of us, in this manner we will not only be traveling on a better path to progress but we will reduce the government spendings on useless things.

Is Motlanthe ready for such task? If not we will be back to square one, his deputy will also write a biography on how they are disappointed with abc.
