The career of a Cape Town ballet dancer hangs in the balance after he was shot in the spine in Gugulethu
Tusile Tenza, 23, was scheduled to have the bullet removed on Wednesday, but it was unclear whether he would be able to dance again, the Cape Argus reports.
Cape Town city ballet principal dancer Mervyn Williams said Tenza was too weak to explain what happened, but it was believed he had been driving with a friend on Sunday when someone started shooting at their car.
He said it had been unusual to see the dancer lying so quietly in his hospital bed.
“He is always laughing and singing choral songs... he has a very jovial streak.”
According to the report, Tenza had been preparing for his role in “Night and Day”, to be staged at the Artscape in Cape Town and the Playhouse Theatre in Durban, from October 26.
