About 50 striking truck drivers set a truck on fire on Henwood Road in Pinetown, an eThekwini metro police spokesman said.
Superintendent Eugene Msomi said the truck driver ran away when he was stopped by the strikers.
Police closed off Kings Road, Glenugie Road and Sunnyside Lane as strikers gathered.
More than 20,000 workers in the road freight transport sector went on a national strike over their pay increase on Monday. Unions reverted to a 12 percent pay demand after rejecting a lower offer by employers earlier this week.

VIVA DEMOCRACY!!!! I am sorry but what is wrong with black people that they must destroy and vandalise and injury innocent people when they march, protest or strike? Surely in a democracy one is entitled to saftey from these "people". Strike, protest and march by all means but show some fukken respect and self restraint!Report Abuse

Geez, I wonder why our rating has been down graded by the international credit houses? Could it be because our economy is being destroyed by striking hooligans?Report Abuse
