(1) That's what happens when tenders are given to people who are unqualified to carry out the project
(2) That's what happens when free housing is given to unemployed people - they're not in a position to fix/maintain the property.
Solution - create employment opportunities & people will build their own houses which they'll be in a position to maintain. Has SA gvt heard of a saying "Teach a man how to fish instead of providing him with bread". Report Abuse

I agree with you there. How old is the house and surely if it is old its the owners responsibility to maintain but on the other hand if it is due to shoddy workmanship, which is more than likely the case, then the government should repair it. No doubt a tender given to a crony if the latter is applicable
I live in that area and gave seen the RDP houses. It is not safe... definitely shoddy workmanship. Report Abuse

Oh for goodness' sake! Fix it it for her! I'm sick of people demanding that government spoon feed them. At some stage we all have to take responsibility for our own lives and sometimes I resent that other people not only get their homes for free, but can demand that government also fix them.
I agree with Mesip - how do you expect to give unemployed people homes when they are unable to pay for services and maintenance? These people should never have been given the houses for free, instead, they should have been given guarantees of being able to stay in the house for a mimimal fee. How many stories have you heard regarding people selling their RDP houses then applying again with a different name? Or people that own more than one RDP house? It is supposed to be for people who earn R 3000.00 and less per month, yet I personally know someone who earns R 100 000.00 a year who has received an RDP house. And people wonder why tax payers are up in arms about free housing. Nobody ever appreciates something given for free. Report Abuse
