The Zulu king was addressing a crowd that attended Shaka Day celebrations at George Goch Stadium in George Goch, Johannesburg, on Sunday.

"I appeal to you to trace your roots," he said. "Focus on promoting your culture and heritage. Be advocates of peace, respect and harmony like the late Shaka."

Annoyed by an unruly crowd that made noise during his speech, he said: "Listen, I am not here to play. I want you to listen because what I am going to say is important. I expect all of you to behave in honour of the late king of the Zulu nation."

In celebrating 184-years since Shaka Zulu died, Zwelithini spoke at length about what he stood for.

"He was a man with a vision. He believed in peace and harmony. The xenophobic attacks that took place in Gauteng are among the things that Shaka Zulu was against. He believed in a united nation."

The king praised a group of young girls who had participated in the recent Royal Reed Dance festival for being part of the celebration.

The event was graced by National Freedom Party leader Zanele Magwaza-Msibi, queens, princes, princesses and the Amandebele king and chiefs.

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and MEC for sports Lebohang Maile were among the dignitaries invited, but did not make it.

Maskandi groups such as Zondeni, Ama-SAP, and Sgwebo entertained the crowd.

Culture is not to walk around naked, not at this age and time, please respect selve and other people. I saw naked women in Soweto yesterday, to make things worse, they were drunk. Elderly Mamas, what are you teaching your daughters?
