Video row hits school
VIDEO footage of an altercation between a pupil and a principal's wife at a local school is doing the rounds in Bronkhorstspruit in Gauteng.
The video, captured by a pupil on a cellphone, shows the wife of the principal manhandling a Grade 10 girl and the girl retaliating by grabbing the woman.
The incident occurred at the Cultura High School in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng, on August 13 after a teacher allegedly accused the girl of tearing up a book.
Pupils told Sowetan the principal's wife was "always at the school".
The pupil was charged at a disciplinary hearing, which will sit again next week, with assault, threatening, disrupting and frustrating teaching or learning in a class.
The Cultura High School's principal, Johann Hermanus Els, declined to comment.
The school governing body chairman Barry Mashego said he would give the Gauteng education department a full report after the hearing.
The department condemned the incident, saying the head of the department was investigating the matter.
Spokesman Charles Phahlane said: "No one who is not a teacher or a parent with an appointment is allowed on school premises during school hours."

And this is not the first time Mrs. Els does this. In 2008 she got into a slap fight with my fiance's little sister (grade 9). Even then she was out of line, because she was never employed by cultura to police the school (a role she feels entitled to play). I don't understand why Mr. Els keeps insisting on having this woman on school grounds. I've heard of two other kids who got into altercations with this woman and it's a low down dirty shame because I think otherwise, Mr. Els is a good principal. He just keeps making the same terrible blunder.Report Abuse

The funny thing is the school decided to keep this a secret and subject the learner to some unnecessary hearing whilst this brainless lady is still parading at the school premises. Mr Els and his wife must just do what is right by steeping away from the school, mind you the woman has no formal qualifications and yet she feels she should behave like a teacher. why must Mrs Els and their son be invigilators through out the year at the same school, nepotism perpetrated by whites on blacks.Report Abuse

@kakadenamanje. Apparently, from what I've heard, she accused the girl of tearing up a paper/booklet with a list of names of pupils who have received debits against their name (ie. credits for good behaviour, debits for bad behaviour). When the girl denied, insults flew and thats how it started.Report Abuse
