IT IS not yet known when the bodies of eight South Africans who perished in a deadly suicide bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, would be returned home.

"We don't know yet when the bodies will be repatriated. We are still working on it but we hope it will be as soon as possible," International Relations and Cooperation Department spokesman Nelson Kgwete said yesterday.

Kgwete said the deceased are Christian Pretorius, 30, Fraser Carey, 31, Steven Leong, 31, Johan Bouchaud, 30, and Johannes Humphries, 65, all from Gauteng; Brandon Booth, 47, from KwaZulu-Natal; Johan van Huyssteen, 31, from Eastern Cape; and Jenny Ayris, 46, from Scotland who had a duel citizenship.

"The department is ... rendering consular assistance to the families," Kgwete said.

They kill aid workers in Afghanistan - so for the taliban to kill these people who may have been involved in construction or other services was nothing. RIP

Flemza - There havent been mercenaries in Afghanistan for quite awhile. If they were involved with the military (which I doubt), then it would have been in the capacity of training the local Afghanistan security forces.

So, lets not speak based on assumptions shall we?

You can not condone the killing of innocent people and I find it strange that you have an issue with people who have ballls to work in foreign countries i wonder why???

These mercenaries worked for Balmoral, which was contracted to the US army in Afghanistan to provide logistics. To the Afghans anyone who is there aiding the occupation of Afghanistan is a legitimate target. All those South Africans taking part in wars they have no business involving themselves into should reconsider their decisions. For the love of money they went to Afghanistan, well they cant say they didnt expect to be targeted.Money is more important to them than what is happening in Afghanistan.

It is time that all leave Afghanistan to be governned by its own people. Maybe sanity will prevail for peace sake.

How do you know they were mercenaries sir?

Recently qualified Commercial Pilots take these assignments to these areas to build their flying hours to Airline Pilots and this is the route I think to take to follow my dream of becoming a Pilot!! I had SA black collegues working in Iran-MTN were they mercenaries too ?
