FORMER presidential spokesman Zizi Kodwa's wedding last year might have been the talk of the town, but he still owes designers and vendors more than R180,000.
It just baffles me when people go big on weddings on other people's expense, now he can't even pay the debt how embarrassing.Ephraim whether celeb or not next time a person must put down half the money so that you don't run at a loss who surely not doing your designs for charity.

Typical modern man mentality : Live above your means on credit! I don't know how many times we read about celebrities ,sport athletes, professionals, ordinary people e.t.c who go broke out of stupidity.Mike Tyson ,Evander Holyfeild just to name a few.It is like when they become rich they get d0mber.Evander Holyfield who made over $300 million dollars in his career was stupid a enough to buy his house on credit. Why did he not just buy the house cash when he had the money?? Now he owes the bank $14 million and is about to be kicked out of the house.Another good example is wyclef jean who has over 50 exotic cars and custom bikes all bought on credit.
This dude taught his job as the presidential spokesman will last for ever and decided to go and do a "look at me now" wedding. Now he is unable to pay and begging his debtors to be patient. It is your cross buddy ,carry it.This issue still won't deter others from taking stupid risks and living above their means.Mr debtor ,please sue his azz, take everything he has.Guys like this need to be taught a lifetime lesson.South Africa is the second ranked country in the world where cards are used to pay for things,i mean SA even rank higher than the USA.That is extremely alarming because so many people are borrowing and only a few are paying back the money. It seems as though every newspaper oultlet wants to compete with the Daily Sun by writing all sorts of useless stories meant at rubbishing and destroying the characters of other fellow South Africans.
On the other hand considering the target market, papers like Sowetan may need to strike a balance between serious stuff with a bit of humour and sh'it stories like this one.

Don't fall into the trap of the modern westernized South Africa. It is complete horsesh1t,just take a look at Europe especially the eurozone.Remember where you came from, remember your struggle and stay disciplined at all times. The banks are not your friend ,they want to enslave you financially. When it comes to cars, weddings, clothes, shoes, phones, electronics which are non investments do yourself a favor and pay cash.If you can't afford it ,SAVE! The only asset which is a rock solid investment that you should take a loan for is a house.Make sure though that the house you are buying has rental opportunity (back flat) so you can get all your bond or some of it from the rent.
It is not a must that you must use an iPhone ,S3 or iPad,you buy any cheaper phone cash which will do a very good job.You can get Ch1nese Android tablets for less than R1500 which will serve you well.Avoid eating out and instead buy bulk groceries and cook at home.Cancel that gym membership, buy exercise equipment and gym at home.Learn how to service your car yourself and find out where to buy the spare parts.Cut down all the debit orders on your bank account. You will save a ton of money monthly.
Open a trust account for your family and deposit a fixed amount in it every month to secure you and your children's futures. There is a proverb in my language : Don't run at the same speed as others, just run at your own pace. That means stop copying what your friends do,do what you believe is sensible.Don't buy an iPhone because most of your friends have one and you want to fit in.Buy an iPhone cash because you can afford it.It is common sense really not rocket science.Self control is essential for every adult.I will say this again,CASH is king.Everything i own in my life i paid cash for.I am so confident that no one will come knocking on my door asking for their money because i owe no one.I only use my debit cards at the ATM and i don't own a credit card. The simplest thing when two people really love one another, is to pop out lobola then go to your local church which believes in Jesus and the bishop will conduct the ceremony right before the congregation and the go to home affairs.

Quite clearly these ANC king pins have it very easy with tax payers money, and hence you have situations like this occurring.

Advertising is to make people aware that there are institutions that are able to satisfy a certain need they might have.
Does not mean if Apple advertises the I phone 5 that im going to go buy it. If there is a need to own a I phone 5, then ill certainly buy it. But no amount of advertising can create a need, that need is natural within your own mind.

Nami i've been questioning this behaviour in society, it happens frequently in SA, ppl get married at exorbitant amounts, even go as far as getting a loan with whatever interest on it just to be flashy, then when the wedding is through, they go back to their parents back-room all in the name of love, which is clearly bull, ba rata dilo.

@ pitchblack101 - How can we blame Sowetan for publishing this story as a headline? Sowetan like any other business/publication deals with demand & Supply. From my observation this story appears to be a hit as it has more comments than any other story this morning. An article that deserves more comments and attention from us i.e. 'Pharmaceutical firms benefiting from disease, plight of poor' has zero comments. Before we blame and criticize Sowetan lets make a deep thorough introspection about ourselves.Report Abuse

What can we expect from SA journalist? In SA gossip news sell 'cos the majority of us are "omaMgobhozi". We get entertained when others "fall".

The only asset which is a rock solid investment that you should take a loan for is a house.Make sure though that the house you are buying has rental opportunity (back flat) so you can get all your bond or some of it from the rent.It is not a must that you must use an iPhone ,S3 or iPad,you buy any cheaper phone cash which will do a very good job.You can get Ch1nese Android tablets for less than R1500 which will serve you well.Avoid eating out and instead buy bulk groceries and cook at home.Cancel that gym membership, buy exercise equipment and gym at home.Learn how to service your car yourself and find out where to buy the spare parts.Cut down all the debit orders on your bank account.

@ 9janavy 100% true, society has fallen for the 'skhothane' mentality.I'm the only person amongst my friends who doesn't own a Blackberry and I drive a reliable paid up car, I don't even know how much petrol costs cos I live within my means, my fridge is always packed and I take at least 2 holidays per year overseas, paid for in cash not credit card.
Our society is so addicted to credit now ppl don't see anything wrong in buying food on credit - yep I'm talking bout that Woolies food, I buy it now and then but I pay cash.

9janavyDon't fall into the trap of the modern westernized South Africa.

Who is that Devil who has been deceiving people that if you are not rich or you don't have money, you can't be loved? The simplest thing when two people really love one another, is to pop out lobola then go to your local church which believes in Jesus and the bishop will conduct the ceremony right before the congregation and the go to home affairs.
When all is done then a simple lunch inviting neighbours and family is fine. Extravagance is not neccessary.

I am also scared to open a restuarant simply because you are urging people to stay away from eating out.Now my dreams are a bit shattered.I don't know anymore, any business which does not have any risks.
