Zizi Kodwa still owes R180,000 for wedding

FORMER presidential spokesman Zizi Kodwa's wedding last year might have been the talk of the town, but he still owes designers and vendors more than R180,000.

Fashion designer and stylist Ephraim Molingoana, who organised all the clothes and jewellery - shoes, outfits for the bride, the groom, groomsmen, bridesmaids and relatives for both the traditional and white weddings, flights for some service providers including make-up artist and hairstylist - is said to be having a headache because of the debt.

The wedding that was dubbed "the wedding of the year" attracted the who's who of South Africa's political scene, including President Jacob Zuma, former national police commissioner Bheki Cele, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet, Mac Maharaj, Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula and UDM leader Bantu Holomisa.

Kodwa, 43, wed Zama Ngubane, 27, in Durban in December last year.

Model-turned-fashion designer Molingoana confirmed that Kodwa owed him R183,700.

"I am owing a lot of people for Zizi's wedding. Every day I receive phone calls from people who want their money.

"I feel helpless. I have been begging him to pay me, with no luck. The dumbest thing I did was not to ask for a deposit because I trusted him ..."

Molingoana said Kodwa only paid him R5,000 two weeks ago after he begged him to pay. "He sent me an SMS telling me he would pay me but that I should be patient."

Yesterday, Kodwa refused to comment to Sowetan.

A Europa Art Shoes manager confirmed that Molingoana owed them R12,000 for Kodwa's wedding shoes.

This week madrid marched against austerity...Russia had the 'March of Millions' in Moscow...Argentina were protesting against poverty and inflation, Portugal, Greece also had demonstrations this week. The investors and dumping the Euro, the US Dollar is worthless, the world is crumbling...AND the front page headline of a South African newspaper is about a wedding bill of an individual.

MorenaWaPolelo: "but he will pay you do not worry!!!" Your faith is admirable though ill-advised. I suppose the operative word would be "WHEN", as there dosn't seem to have been much forthcoming yet. Why on earth people have to go glitz-bedonnerd to this extent without the funds to back it is beyond me.

pitchblack: I agree with you, but on the other hand, this man was presidential spokesperson, so an expose of his apparent dishonesty is interesting, though not really surprising at all. The discovery of honesty and decency in the Presidency would be more unusual and newsworthy.

Morena: With respect. Faith today in SA is very poor currency. It has no value whatsoever. Can't trade in it, that's for sure.
