I am not religious. However, I believe that the pastor was completely correct to suspend the choir for activities which are certainly not in line with church policy. And for supposed CHristians to threaten their leader with violence!!!!! What kind of Christian is that?

As for the "end being nigh"... Don't make me laugh. This kind of thing has happened from time to time throughout history. You doomsday preachers just make me laugh.

The chior must engage the pastor through the right channels and stop employing the last resort of action.From what i understand,the church leader suspended the whole chior because they go on a drinking spree during weekends and also engage in sexual activities when the chior is at street parties or shebeens, is not a clear accusation and for the priest to swear publicly during church presidings is equally wrong....Two wrongs does not make it right.
In any event i believe that there are other ways of resolving issues and dealing with enger.....negotiations were the way to go but should they fail,then other mathods of reaching consensus can be employed.

If the priest sees something wrong, he must react. These reported loose morals might be affecting other parish members, who might have approached the priest as a spiritual leader to intevene.

The problem is that black people want to treat black priest like small boys who are not allowed to think. It is a sad state of affairs.

What is wrong doing it at Church finctions? maybe put that as some of the activities to be done at Church functions. put them on the agenda as well. because I see no wrong in drinking alcohol and having sex.

If alcohol was wrong, then there would have used water during sacrement not wine, and if sex was wrong, they should not allow marriages, because you marry a women because you love her looks, her body makes you wonna sex her, is it so? No man can marry someone who makes you cold. it is a fact. Please bring better excusses, not these two.

This is so sad. As a roman catholic christian myself, i am so dissapointed by the actions of these peolple. Most of the roman catholic rules provide loop holes for this type of behaviour to happen. Youth participation in RC church is questionable. Not only in that particular church, all over south africa, roman catholic' youth use choir and other structures as social engagement structures not spiritual purporses.

If it s the catholic church, there's no reason to turn violent.
Priest conduct can be reported to the Bishop, or even higher at the Cardinal.

If that does not help, you can write a letter to Rome. but issues are normally resolved within the regional diocese.

As to the misbehaving choir members, the priest does have authority to institute disciplinary measures with the help of the parish council.

But seriously though, our priest also forbid the choir from participating in activities outside the church such as competitions and festivals up to this date coz he felt that we were focusing more on matters outside the church forgetting that we are a parish choir. We did not toyi - toyi and demand his removal.

And we all drink at church functions but we do so responsibly.

This parish is an embarassment to the Catholic community at large, there are structures within the church to deal with such. Protests and media are not it.
