These are difficult times and difficult decisions have to be made. I am not sure whether the heavy jackboot response is the right one - this could lead to more violence - and a mini-revolution.
I would say the affected mines should close, fire the illegal strikers ( One has sympathy for people struggling to earn a living, but the country cannot afford to let illegal actions become the order of the day), which will calm thins down. In a few months, start recruiting again. I feel even less sympathy for the fact that some wealthy capitalists will suffer some financial damage in the process. Report Abuse

ktzo: The fact that humans have not yet been able to develop means of dealing with conflict other than violence is a great tragedy. Certainly there have been very few bloodless revolutions, but if you really study world history you will find that there have in fact been several, over the centuries. Very few, but still. That aside, I agree, most revolutions in the past have involved bloodshed. That IN NO WAY makes bloodshed desirable. All it means is that we humans have yet to evolve. Killing people simply can NEVER be a good thing. And I say that with absolutely no religious angle, as I am not religious. It's simply common sense - something sorely lacking in our political environment.
Now about the air-conditioning in your office.......... lol Report Abuse

Our government has made a complete and utter hash of this whole situation. They got caught short because our useless crime intel is so busy snooping for politicians that they didn't even know what was going on even though they got a warning in Feb when Implats had their problem initially. They then waited for a week before even acknowledging the shooting and now they want to go all PW Botha on everyone. It is just wrong on so many levels Report Abuse
