ANC chairman backs Kgalema
A SENIOR Gauteng ANC leader has cautioned the ANC Youth League against insulting the party's leaders, implying that this may alienate leaders sympathetic to its cause to have President Jacob Zuma unseated in Mangaung later this year.
Provincial chairman Paul Mashatile was speaking at the ANCYL's 68th birthday rally at the Thembelihle informal settlement, south of Johannesburg.
He said the league needed to remain disciplined in order to successfully carry out its objectives.
"The fact that we want to renew the organisation does not mean that we must insult our leaders.
"We must have discipline.
"Discipline will help us a lot when we get to Mangaung," Mashatile said.
Mashatile once again called for a renewed party leadership.
Yesterday's proceedings resembled somewhat of a coming-out party as the youth league and the provincial ANC abandoned backroom lobbying in their push for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to unseat Zuma in Mangaung in December.
Senior leaders from both organisations openly pledged support for Motlanthe, even though the deadline for the opening of nominations is almost a month away.
On stage, the youth league's leaders, led by Greater Johannesburg regional secretary Percy Ntsobi and recently reinstated provincial secretary Ayanda Kasa-Ntsobi, sang songs in praise of Motlanthe.
However, some leaders - like Young Communist League (YCL) secretary Buti Manamela and provincial youth league deputy chairman Simon Molefe - seemed uncomfortable with the pro-Motlanthe songs.
They avoided Motlanthe's name as their counterparts sang Ha'yo mathata, Kgalema ha le teng (there are no worries when Kgalema is here)."
The league's deputy president Ronald Lamola used his address to lament the ages of ANC leaders, citing international examples as the way to go.
He said leaders like US president Barack Obama ascended to the United States presidency while in his 40s, while South African leaders seemed to continually buck the trend.
Lamola also urged the league not to be shy about its preference for Motlanthe.
"We say, without fear, to comrade Kgalema that the youth wants you," he said.

So predictable when the YL wants a 'new breed' of leader:Motlanthe and Fikele.

The ANC is divided now by its officials self interest - people advancing their personal interests and hunger for power over the party's vision. The shenanigans will continue after Manguang. Anybody who thinks normalcy will return after Manguang is in for a rude shock.Report Abuse

I am afraid Comrade Paul has just fall into the trap that Zuma had set up!Remember the stunt he took during ANC Council in Durban, that angered Zuma which was the move which prompted the Commander to split Sport and Culture into two Departments to accommodate Paul and Fikile. That move angered Zuma and is still angry. As such the chicken has since came home to roast!
Comrade Paul has just burned his fingers unnecessarily the very same reason prompted Zuma not deprive him of Premiership of Gauteng because he cannot be trusted as he is a hypocrite. Just like Malema as soon as they are done with Zuma predecessor as they had planed they will push everybody aside until they become the Presidents themselves.
What do you call that, this boys think they understand the ANC and Jacob Zuma, hell no they are now in for it.
Pity the person that they are longing for is right in Zuma 's camp and does not even entertain them, poor idiots, I thought they know something about politics but none.

Do they really discipline? Respect? Yes. Better leaders to respect? Yes. It has nothing to do with discipline we are past having school mentalities in an era where individuality plays such a large part of our being so discipline for one will not be for the other, but respect is one thing that it seems the ANCYL does not have.Report Abuse
