SETSOTO municipal manager Tshepiso Ramokarane has blamed residents for the situation they find themselves in.
Residents had attacked the municipality's employee, burnt down a water tank and a house belonging to a councillor and damaged a tractor during a service delivery protest.
"We were bringing water in trucks to the area until they assaulted our employee, leaving him with only one eye," Ramokarane said.
"They also damaged our properties. For the safety of our staff, we decided that we would pour water into the reservoir, which supplies only a few, especially people in town.
Our schools and health facilities are also provided with water.
"We pray for heavy rains to start pouring. Again we have an agreement with the neighbouring Lesotho government to also assist in the situation," Ramokarane said.
