Though not sure if the incidents are related, the police are saying criminals are targeting women-headed households, stealing items that include cellphones, portable personal computers and cash.

Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said the criminals were on foot.

"In some cases we are told two or three suspects are involved," Jacobs said.

"They target women living alone or in backyard rooms (cottages). They do not drive. They commit the crimes, then walk away from the scene."

Jacobs said the police had compiled an identikit of one of the suspects based on a description received from complainants.

A suspect, identified only as Spiderman, in one case broke into a house and overpowered a man, tied him up and forced him to watch while he raped his woman partner.

Jacobs could not say whether crime in the area was rife, except that it was difficult to monitor movements in the area because of construction taking place there.

She could not give the number of cases involved because they were a subject of investigation.

"There is a lot of development there," Jacobs said. "It is not easy to say who lives there, so criminals are taking advantage of this."

we had the same problem at Mahube and the man was called Mzekezeke who ised to tied the man and rape the woman and little girls, this is depressing because you don't enjoy or relax in your home. the community must do something about it . we problem is this rapist they attend all the communuty meeting and the day they patrol they are not coming once they stop they come back. this is a bad setuation to be in i know how that community feels when night approaches

For as long as the law is failing the victims and for as long as there is the so called Presidential pardon who know those criminals were given parole there is a lot of incompetency in this country especially the leadership of this country can anyone explain the reason why we should have department of women,children and persons with disabilities while women and children are being raped day in and out what exactly are these people doing in those offices why dont they convice the ruling party to bring back the gallows look how the prisons are overcowded accross the country it is because criminals do as they wish left right and centre i just feel sorry for those women and children who are on the waiting list to be raped
