This headline, and the article, raises an intersting question nl what exactly is meant by "transformation". Many people see it as simply meaning b'lack people must be in positons of power where formerly there were w,hite people.
On this basis, many would say the WC is still untransformed because a mostly w.hite party is governing, and the Eastern Cape is transfromed because the ANC, a mostly bl.ack, party is governing. Yet, Primrose is qouted as saying there are no jobs, nothing, in the Eastern Cape, and we know that there is widespread poverty, poor education, etc there, as aresult of which bl.ack people are flocking annually to the WC, the "untransformed" province.
The point is that transfroamtion should not be about the r.ace of the person in power, but about transformation in the well being of the poor people of the country in particular. Report Abuse

if we can drill this type of thinking into half the population this country would go far and we wouldn't be insulted by the type of leadership we have.
But unfortunately, most (black or white) cannot see past colour and with the scars of the past still running painfully deep, it is easy for the current govt to borrow the old enemies propaganda techniques and promote further absurdities such as 'Wit Gevaar' to instill fear and uncertainty, as a means of ensuring control and favour.

@16-12-1838, I agree that education is the key to uplifting our people, but one thing you should not forget is the now or the present, people want change now, the current generation of unskilled people withing our society are in their mid 30s to 50s, education if they can get resources to go back to school will cost them another 10 years and will add up to another 10 years before they can see the fruits of it's labor, meaning this generation is to die poor in porverty, this is why some are fighting for a better life in thier life time not 20 years from know, the younger generation are the once who stand to benefit from education, since they is still time for them, but the older unskilled generation if they were rely on education alone wont see change in their life time, since they would have to go through the long tidious process of aquiring education at that age, to just tell people education it still doesn't give them any solutions for problems they are facing now of proverty and slow transformation, so how does one emancipate themselves from mental slavery through education is time and fortune is not on thier side. Politicians tell people the truth and they will love you for it, they will move on and start to think for themselve since they would know what your true agenda is and you role in society as a politician, this will remove false hope from the hearts of the people and they will start looking out for themselves. I hear you brother but there is no easy solution to the current problem, the time to have fixed it was in 1994 when the opportunity was ripe and people were filled with hope. The people were ignored then and are still ignored today, and by continuously lying to them by promising wealth and economic freedom through unachievable, destructive methods, will certainly not help their plight.
It pains me to say this but the harsh reality is that the current generation of 30's - 50's (of all colours and backgrounds, of which I too fall into this bracket) need to accept that they must still suffer and ultimately sacrifice their dreams of rapid transformation or hopes of eliminating poverty, to ensure those generations behind us benefit from a peaceful and prosperous future. Which the provision of a solid platform through good education is key, no?
Isn't this ultimately what we as mammals and specifically Humans do to ensure the survival of our species, sacrifice our safety and pleasures for those we bring into this world, to nurture and protect? Should we therefore continue to be selfish and keep demanding riches now, or should we rather accept and adopt a more humble and long-term vision - where we can unconditionally offer our children and their children, those things that we never had? @16-12-1838, exactly, this is why I say the only solution is the truth, the politicians must come our with a straight face and tell people the truth, that their generation will remain is porverty and that thier hopes should lay on the younger generation, instired of coming out every election promising people a better life for all, which is what politicians always promise people, they should look at the current older generation in the eye and tell them the truth that only a few will see prosperity in this generation while 90% of this generation will end in porverty, I say tell people the truth so they can move on from false hope. Politicians fear that once people learn of the truth they will revolt and the revolution that has been eluding Malema will happen, think of it this way at the moment the poor out number the rich, what would happen if all this poor people were to revolt and decide to ruin life for all by making the country ungorvenable, who stands to loose the most. @ Tabza 325 is and 16 -12-18838, some " easy fix " solutions for your comments :
Problem of immediate relief from poverty for the " lost generation " : All whi.tes to pay an " apartheid tax " of their total assets ( individuals and companies) - into a fund, which will be massive - to be administered by trustworthy trustees in a manner to the maximum benefit of those people. Adult educastion programmes, small busniess job creation, area u[pliftment, etc. It won't solve poverty but can help.
Nationalisation debate : A workers trust c reated for each mine, which gets 10% shares in that mine - the workers get dividends, and other benefits the same as other shareholders, in addition of course to salaries. Again, trustworhty trustees , not cadres, to administer these trusts. Report Abuse

When did any politician ever create any jobs - they only know how to destroy. The only way out for my people is to make their own work - and huge education is not required for this, courage is. I definitely agree with an Apartheid tax as we cannot dispute the fact that we benefitted from such a system and therefore should show some form of visible remorse via compensation. The first problem though is how do you quantify this benefit/advantage to individuals or companies?
Also there needs to be a cut off line, it is not fair to apportion liabilty to those who they themselves had no possible means of creating any direct advantage for themselves (i.e. school children). So such a tax should only apply to those who benefitted during the time frame of Apartheid i.e Those persons who were 19 years or older and those companies who were 2 years or older from 1 May 1994.
BUT before any of this becomes reality...a trustworthy administrator needs to be found! So I guess this type of thing will never materialise? Report Abuse

I have never before understood exactly how wise George Orwell was when he wrote Animal Farm until I have seen it happen with my own eyes. For those who don't know, its about the pigs rallying up the rest of the farm animals to throw over th
e oppressive regime of the farmers. When they eventually do they declare by law that ALL animals are now equal. They all work hard together for a "better future for all". But as the pigs get used to the power they start allowing themselves more liberties, always justifying it to the rest of the animals with some lame reason. Eventually they move into the farmers house and start walking on two legs, and turn out much worse oppressors than the farmers ever were. And their equality law now read: "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others". Is that not SO typical of what happened here. We started off with freedom and equality for all South Africans. Now the so called "leaders" are above the law, raking in for their own benefit, oppressing their very own people for their personal gain. And very fast becoming worse than the previous oppressors ever was. Lets hope that the people, like the animals in the book, will eventually wake up to the truth and take them down. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Education YES, but unfortunately not all people have the "means" to an education and this should NOT be a reason for what's happening. In Turkey even old people work, they clean the streets at night, everybody there has a job. Our government should stop pocketing our TAX money and give everyone jobs! The worst this government has done was giving labor brokers all the authority, its because of labor broking that people are earning disgusting wages!! I don't care what you say!! I feel for the miners exploited to the bitter end and then killed! Put yourself in their shoes, bare minimum wage for years and the fat cats are pocketing while the miners work their backsides of for what MINIMUM wage! How much longer can people carry on being exploited and not earn enough for food. How long must SA's go without electricity and water!? People are proud they want decent paying jobs in fact most just want jobs, stop exploiting people for goodness sake. Not everybody wants to live on grants but the government wants this! Until public servants understand that public service means public service and not self service our problems will continue to escalate up until we are faced with civil war.
If mining workers and other workers can be helped to organised themselves in legitimate structures that will really be under their controll, for example "true labour co-operatives", we can change this bleak situation of slow transformation. Yes unions have played this role some how but political ambitions and corruption among unions leaders has caused them to compromise their allegiance to the workers whom they claim to serve thus leading to the existing situation. Labour Co-operatives can build upon the solid foundation ( workers solidarity) which unions have facilitated and make felt the power they have. This strategic approach can go a long way to improve workers unhappy situation and surely have a positive impact on the whole economy. Lets talk more about this approach. Report Abuse

"In general, the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one class of citizens to give to the other." (Voltaire)
With time people will realize that party sentiments will not improve the quality of life of the ordinary people. Only sound economic policies will bring about change. With the current situation prevailing in South Africa the country is heading for a serious crisis in its history. Corruption is the order of the day. The ruling elite is amassing the country's wealth at the expense of the poor and people's patience is thinly stretched to the point of rapturing. Those in power are busy filling up their individual pockets which unfortunately keep expanding beyond their capacity. Every opportunist is taking advantage of the situation by pretending to be on the side of the poor while in reality they practice the opposite (the expelled ANCYL President and his henchmen).
South Africa really needs to be overhauled for people to see a real change. The current leadership has dismally failed the electorate and the nation.
Perhaps the country needs the divine intervention as a last resort. Report Abuse

@ cornelius...agreed!But unfortunately, most (black or white) cannot see past colour and with the scars of the past still running painfully deep, it is easy for the current govt to borrow the old enemies propaganda techniques and promote further absurdities such as 'Wit Gevaar' to instill fear and uncertainty, as a means of ensuring control and favour.
In a true democracy, the anc would have been defeated long ago - it is only emotion and sentimentality that allows them the priviledge of power these days, S.A is a pretty unique country when all said and done!

@16-12-1838, I agree that education is the key to uplifting our people, but one thing you should not forget is the now or the present, people want change now, the current generation of unskilled people withing our society are in their mid 30s to 50s, education if they can get resources to go back to school will cost them another 10 years and will add up to another 10 years before they can see the fruits of it's labor, meaning this generation is to die poor in porverty, this is why some are fighting for a better life in thier life time not 20 years from know, the younger generation are the once who stand to benefit from education, since they is still time for them, but the older unskilled generation if they were rely on education alone wont see change in their life time, since they would have to go through the long tidious process of aquiring education at that age, to just tell people education it still doesn't give them any solutions for problems they are facing now of proverty and slow transformation, so how does one emancipate themselves from mental slavery through education is time and fortune is not on thier side.Report Abuse

It's as if someone has blocked their ability to accept sophistication!
When i heard about Marikana i wondered how was this possible, only to find out that 30 of the 34 killed hailed from BUNDULAND(EC or KZN). There was a protest at TUT;PTA that same week BUNDULANDERS were forcing people to strike and killed a bouncer. Protest ko sosha - BUNDULANDERS! I can safety say that all the violent protest action that has eminated this year, whether in BUNDULAND(EC or KZN) or not, have all been a result of BUNDULANDERS and their violent mentality.

A methamatician is trained to solve problems, politicians are not trained to slove any problem, the only solution that remains is for politicians to tell people the truth, that we are not here to solve your problems and have no training or any qualifications in solving problems, as politicians they are in power to politic and enrich themselve and thier families in the process, as politicians they are there to look out for the interest of the elit society and protect thier investment and interest, as a politicians you are just there to sugar court enequality and porverty with democracy, as a politician you are there to help center wealth within a few individuals in society while enabling them to function in safety, you are there to maintain proverty to ensure that they is enough desparate people in society to do manual labor for peanuts, thus you as a politician have to maintain a below avarage standard of education for the poor, while the elite can provide their own resource to ensure better education for their young. Politicians tell people the truth and they will love you for it, they will move on and start to think for themselve since they would know what your true agenda is and you role in society as a politician, this will remove false hope from the hearts of the people and they will start looking out for themselves.Report Abuse

@ Tabza325isI hear you brother but there is no easy solution to the current problem, the time to have fixed it was in 1994 when the opportunity was ripe and people were filled with hope.

Politicians fear that once people learn of the truth they will revolt and the revolution that has been eluding Malema will happen, think of it this way at the moment the poor out number the rich, what would happen if all this poor people were to revolt and decide to ruin life for all by making the country ungorvenable, who stands to loose the most.Report Abuse

they can't tell the truth (even if they were capable of doing so) as their very existence is dependant of us never knowing just how useless they are. If we found that out, we wouldn't be so eager to be their personal piggybanks for their lavish lifestyles.

@ Tabza325isYup, I'm afraid you are so right my friend. Revolution will not solve the problem either, just prolongue the agony and destroy everything - not just the economy or infrastructure. I often travel to Uganda, Rwanda and Sierra Leone so have seen and felt those emotional scars that still exist to this very day and for many more years to come.
I pray we never have to feel that pain here, for the people have suffered enough! But with the current bunch of criminals in power who are so hell bent on destroying this country, I am not so certain?

@ Tabza 325 is and 16 -12-18838, some " easy fix " solutions for your comments :Problem of immediate relief from poverty for the " lost generation " : All whi.tes to pay an " apartheid tax " of their total assets ( individuals and companies) - into a fund, which will be massive - to be administered by trustworthy trustees in a manner to the maximum benefit of those people.

Politicians are not people who can feel for anybody but themselves. To think that people can see them as anything but destructive,is amazing. When did any politician ever create any jobs - they only know how to destroy. The only way out for my people is to make their own work - and huge education is not required for this, courage is. Look at the Somalis flocking into this country. Within two years, they are surviving in a foreign country, different language, culture, no education, and no hand out expectations. We can do the same.Report Abuse

@ corneliusI definitely agree with an Apartheid tax as we cannot dispute the fact that we benefitted from such a system and therefore should show some form of visible remorse via compensation.

We need to recall parliament. To do that, we need to look at the 1987 strike, it was called the 6,7 & 8 Strike. The entire country was rendered ineffective. Stay-aways, Marches, civil disobediences, protests, road-blocks and place a ring of steel around major ports and cities, until the government resigns, country placed into civilian administration, revise the Constitution, impeach Msholozi, put all ANC ministers under house arrest and investigate corruption, place a moratorium on fanancial reserves leaving the country by placing banks (industrial, corporate & Investment) under Emergency regulations. Then start new election process, to deliver progressReport Abuse

They are playing people like fools, we cant make you rich so lets make EVERYONE poor, so ALL our people are poor but the government and their cronies are the ONLY rich people!Report Abuse

Co-operatives
Lets talk more about this approach.Report Abuse

"In general, the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one class of citizens to give to the other." (Voltaire)With time people will realize that party sentiments will not improve the quality of life of the ordinary people.
