Deployment fees cost DA members

Aug 30, 2012 | Quinton Mtyala Cape Town Correspondent | 92 comments

THE Democratic Alliance is in the process of axing 20 of its councillors across the country for not paying their "candidate's fees", which is half of a single month's income , and "tithes" - which is up to 3% of their monthly income - to the party.

A political party must have the highest form of discipline because an undisciplined party like we have seen in the ANC leads to inefficiency & corruption!!!

The Madam and the tea girl are running an efficient party. No institution can survive unless its finances are under control and that the rules applies to everyone. This is explains why the level of corruption in the DA is so significantly less than other political parties that deploy friends, families and ghost workers into positions to rape the coffers that were meant to pay for schools to educate your kids.

At least we know that the DA expects its members to pay and not the tax payer.

Please, please DA supporters let us stick to the fact in issue, that being the firing of DA councillors. These councillors are being fired for not paying "party tithes" and other such fees. Instead of diverting attention from the issue and start your daily anti-ANC rants, make us understand the reasoning behind electing DA councillors; is it to serve the party first and the people later if at all? Were the voters told that the DA is only fielding candidates for them to earn from our taxes and pay to the party instead of serving the people? From where I stand, the DA deceived the voters.

The DA should have informed us that their first priority is to "fundraise" and service to the people will take a backseat, hence the people toyi-toyi for services until the develop blisters on their feet, the DA is only interested in the money. The DA told us they were fielding "only the best candidates fit for purpose", are they no longer "fit for purpose"? Or was the "purpose" only to get money? The DA is behaving like the very same Labour Brokers that COSATU want to see banned. They get their "councillors" employed by the electorate and take the money from the poor councillors. DA is the main Labour Broker of Cape Town.

@ John Stone. Papsak is not banned, get your facts straight.

It is you who has nothing between the ears I'm afraid.

Some councillors are ward councillors, that means a specific person stood for a specific ward. Others are proportional representation counciillors, who become councillors by virtue of where they stand on the party list ( decided by the party) and how many votres the party gets.

In respect of the ward councillors, at best they can argue that their ward wanted them specifically and that they should not be fired for failing to pay their tithes. Maybe that is what you are trying to say in a rather convoluted manner.

In respect of ward councillors, there is no such argument.

We don't know whether these councillros are ward or prop repr councillors.

Even if they are ward councillors, the fact ramins that a party rule is a party rule. i fyou don't want your ward councillor fired, urge him/her not to break the rule, or give him the money with which to pay the tithe.

Simple, even you should understand.

Me also know Hellen Zille wrongly claims to have been an "anti-apartheid activist", but many know Zille's only claim to "anti-apartheid fame" was her stubborn persuit of "what happened to Steve Biko"? That is no "activism", but a journalist looking for, err...for...eish, oh ja a SCOOP!! Ja that is the right word, Zille was a juornalist looking for a SCOOP!! In journalism, they call a good selling story a scoop, I know poor Sinudeity was now thinking of Ice Cream, poor you!

Another Hellen, err..., oh yes, Suzman, never fought against apartheid, she only SPOKE against apartheid while at the same time serving her constituency living in a dermacated white area under Group Areas Act, Houghton! She never, never, never fought against apartheid, she happily served in the apartheid parliament. I know who fought against apartheid, Joe Slovo did, Hellen Joseph did, Oom Beyers Naude did, Bram Fischer did.

JohnStone - Yeah dude, and the ANC leaders never faught against apartheid. They were sitting in overseas cities, or in exile in other African countries. They never faught against the apartheid government. They were busy enjoying western civilization. Well, Zuma was sitting in Angola, killing his own brothers and raping girls. And now they are heroes. For doing nothing :P Laughable.

Ah, so you are an apartheid relic? South Africa will be better off once all the apartheid relics die.

I've been reading everyones comment and sadly i feel you are arguing with someone who doesn't appreciate a factual debate. This Sinu guy is very st!u.pi.d. His kind must be ignored as we stride forward!

There is reason why they say you shouldn't feed the Zoo animals...

DJ-Winner - Me too...

Funny how the ANC fanboys come out of their corners to slate the DA for tithing... Dont you have anything substantial to attack the DA with?

Corruption, incompetence or anything like that?

I don't know about Malema and I don't care

You are not answering my question. I mean it is almost impossible to laugh and be angry at the same time.

DJ. He he. Not at all. Something can be so absurd that one can't help but laugh, even though the end result of the absurdity is often tragic, which of course makes one angry.
