A 74-year-old woman was raped, stabbed and robbed in her granny flat in Bisley, Pietermaritzburg, the Witness reported on Tuesday.

Captain Thulani Zwane told the paper the woman was on her way to her room after having a bath on Saturday morning when she was attacked by an unknown man.

The man had entered through an unlocked gate.

“The suspect stabbed the victim on the head with a sharp object. He then dragged her on the floor to a room in the house where he raped her,” Zwane said.

The man stole R450 from the woman’s purse, her cellphone and a sewing machine.

He was arrested on Saturday afternoon in the Willowfountain area in Plessislaer.

The woman was in a stable condition at the St Anne’s hospital where she was recovering from the incident.
