Community members said warring groups from Lesotho were the root of the v!olence, although it now seems as though people were being targeted regardless of their affiliation.

What an absolute tragedy - come on, SAPS, it should not be difficult to fiond these gangsters, arrest them, get a conviction, and let them rot in jail. Law abiding people should no tsuffer like this at the hands of sc.um.

If there's death penalty for this crime they've committed. They must go stand trial in lesotho. We don't want foreigners come solving they clan problems here. We've got enough problems of our own that we need sorted.

BRAINLOT

These gangs are known as marashea (the name comes from the russians). They are called russians because of the weapons that they have, they are well organized and they have been around since the begining of the gold mines.At the begining they where formed to protect lesotho mine workers against south african gangs then they grew into large gangs which operated between lesotho and southafrica smuggling dagga, diamonds, and stolen livestock. some of the gang members were hired as contract killers during taxi wars in south africa. They started fighting each other because the was a lot of money involved and women. They did not stop to exist but the infighting made them weaker because they where no longer one big group but small factions. They can organize themselves in a matter of hours, when they have a common enemy these small groups come together to form one large group that can eliminate the enemy, they have the money and the weapons and it is not easy to track them because they are all over. My advice is that the south africa security agencies must act now or else there will be a lot of bloodshed and less than ten arrest even lesser prosecutions. There's about 200 000 members of these gangs. The yellow blankets are just a small factions and each time the plan attacks they change names, one members can be involved in a lot of gang activities under different names. The Godfather of soweto was a high ranking member of these gangs that's how he started his business empire he died a tycoon.

so before u start laughing at a gang called the yellow blankets you must do your research, some of the bloggers or their family members are part of the lesotho mafia (marashia) so be careful when you comment. If you double cross these guys or offend them they don't mind to take care of you (eliminate you) even if you are a friend or family member. Hulle is kwaai soos die karnalies van kimberly and the Americans of cape town what makes them more dangerous is that they are all over SA, Lesotho and they have connections all over Southeren Africa

What makes our kids think that the best thing about turning 18 is to give them the right to go to tarvens? What kind of father goes to a tarven with his son? Why was no security at the tarven? Is it not a legislative requirement to have security at liquor outlets?

@Brianlot, thanks very much for the useful information. You're a kind of a person we need here. You are a useful human being....and yes, the law enforcement agencies must do something before it is too late. Why people are being killed everyday here in SA and only few arrests are made. SOUTH AFRICA HAS BEEN HIJACKED BY CRIMINALS or SHALL I SAY SOUTH AFRICA IS THE PLAY GROUND FOR CRIMINALS. This needs to stop as soon as possible. Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa let's hope you are listening. PEOPLE ARE BEING KILLED AND FAMILIES ARE LOSING BREADWINNERS...

I was raised in a mining town and spent most of the time playing around the township hostel, some of my relatives from Lesotho were part of these gangs and they used to have their all night parties (timiti) at my house (we had a tarven that they visited on regular basis) so i personally know some of them. But if you get to know them u would understand that some joined the gangs because of fear and for the saftey of their loved ones. There are rules within these gangs, if you break some of them the only punishment is death e.g disclosing information to outsiders or police, adultery or insubordination. Killing of a member is done in full view of the people to send out a warning message

Thanks for the info but you are not right when you say Godfrey Moloi was a member of Marassia, he was more aligned to guys from hostel (IFP) not amarassia. Most of Marassia are staying in Phiri & Protea South.

@KEBATLALEPIPITLANE

I dont remember Marassia protecting us from Inkatha, we had SDU (self defence units) and we were very organised during the fight against Inkatha. Im from Mapetla & I was alway there during the fights with Inkatha,there was a time when we closed Merafe hostel & they had no supply of food & other necessities because we even cut their water supply .Godfrey Moloi was once spotted delivering loafs of bread to the hostel dwellers & his shops were nearly burnt down. It was tough during those days of fighting Inkatha.
