ET raped me and gave me HIV, claims convicted killer

CHRIS Mahlangu, convicted of the murder of Eugene Terre'Blanche, believes the former AWB leader left him HIV positive.

He claimed the right-wing leader raped him before the killing in April 2010.

Mahlangu, pictured, said he killed Terre'Blanche in self-defence after the rape.

This emerged during sentencing proceedings yesterday in the high court sitting in Ventersdorp.

Clinical psychologist Hein Swanepoel, who performed a psychological analysis on Mahlangu, told the court: "Mahlangu says he is HIV positive and suspects he must have been infected by the deceased.

"He alleges he was raped by the deceased three to four times and did not resist because the deceased was a powerful man."

Justice John Horn has found Mahlangu guilty of breaking into Terre'Blanche's farm house, murdering him and attempting to rob him of his cellphone and a bakkie.

His co-accused Patrick Ndlovu, who was 15 years old at the time of murder, was found guilty on a lesser charge of housebreaking with the intention to steal.

But Swanepoel conceded to prosecutor George Baloyi that his report was outdated because it was compiled two days before Horn's judgement on May 22 and thus did not take that judgment into consideration.

Baloyi pointed out that Horn had dismissed Mahlangu's allegations of rape. He also reminded the court that a Department of Home Affairs official testified that Mahlangu did not exist on the South African population register.

He also recounted evidence, which Horn had accepted, that Terre'Blanche was killed while motionless on his bed, dispelling Mahlangu's version that he was acting in self-defence.

Ndlovu's defence called Johan Engel of Bosasa Place of Safety, where he had been incarcerated for the duration of the trial.

Engel told the court he believed Ndlovu should be released into the community. - moengk@sowetan.co.za
