A teacher accused of raping a 16-year-old pupil in Kagiso, on the West Rand, appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday, police said.
He remained in custody and it was not immediately known when he would be back in court, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.
The 35-year-old Thutopele Secondary School teacher was arrested on Thursday for crimes committed on July 18 and 19.
Sibiya said the matter was brought to the attention of the police on Wednesday.
It was not clear why it had taken such a long time for the matter to be reported, he said.

why is it that bloggers correlate different criminality with geographical location?? This mindset is the same as racism. A crime is a crime, no matter where its committed and there is no need for imbecillic stereotyping that causes unnecessary anxiety. a 16 year old was violated, not only her body but also professional trust. As an outstanding pillar of society, we trust the teachers with our children, when that trust is violated, it takes forever to heal, without bloggers pouring petrol into the blazeReport Abuse
