Flawed public purse

Aug 17, 2012 | Olebogeng Molatlhwa Political Reporter | 26 comments

South Africa's hefty social grants bill is likely to bulge further in the future, unless the millions of unemployed youths sitting idle are absorbed into the economy. And the reality is that the government and taxpayers simply have no choice but to dig deeper into their pockets.

Nothing to worry about people. Our miracle-enabled leadership are busily applying their minds to this issue. I reckon they might even come up with the framework for discussions toward a roadmap toward guidelines some time in the next 20 years or so. Never lose sight of the fact that our benevolent serial father and husband knows exactly what he and his party are doing. I mean, he said so, so it must be true.

The reality is that the people think the government MUST give them a job - nowhere in the world is this expectation as big as in South Africa.(mostly because the government promises it during elections - so why create your own work ?)

The people need to understand that they need to get involved in creating their own jobs like in China, America (there is no job protection there), Europe, etc. They must stop waiting for someone else to help them and help themselves - they can !

As heartbreaking as it may sound, people do not have a right to a job or house - we must try and help the poor as far as we can but they must not wait for it - it remains a priviledge and they can not strike for it.

If you can't afford to give your child a good education, then you shouldn't have so many children - otherwise they become beggars and suffer through their whole life. It's not nice to hear - but we must become realistic and responsible.

Don’t worry majita, Marcus Garvey was right when he said if you take away Commerce from a bunch of proud humans, they’ll be similar to slaves since they won’t have anything else to brag about.

Humans are busy condemning the Earth Farm to that level so very soon you’ll be sitting next to JZ if he manages to survive the quakes and uprisings.

Even Hiroshima had different classes, but after the bombing by other humans, they were all the same.

O se ke wa mamela magwala who keeps hoping that things will stay the same. Things will change and when they do, some will rejoice whilst others cry. It’s the dynamics of life.

For now, soldier on

The problem is our system of education that seem only to be single tract, get education then you will get employed and still after with all your qualification u don't make it,as soon that can be changed and come up with merchanism of producing people who can be job creators than job seekers.

All of these kids all want to go to university and study something they can do nothing with. When I speak to young men in my community about being a plumber, electrician, and mechanic they I’m crazy. All want to start work with a pay of R50,000 p/m. They will rather stay home than work for less. All wants a BMW and party at night. They have lost responsibility.

Young people are too choosy when it come to the type of work. What they don't understand is that you start from the bottom and you work your way up. The other thing is that people don't want to work cos of the benefits Free House, free health care from pregnancy and Free Money (grants)...We don't want free Condoms. Kubuhlungu ukuba iTaxpayer.

@Belo - spot on !

But how will the "elders" sort out these young ones and the ANCYL who want everything for nothing ?

Parents are scared to be unpopular with their children. Be tough on them and let them live according to your rules - if they are young, they should not lie in the streets at night - why do you worry if they don't like it ?

Parents must wake up !

SUBSIDIES ARE WEAKENING PEOPLE. SINCE THE GOVERNMENT IS PAYING PEOPLE TO SIT AROUND CONSIDER THEM TO BE EMPLOYED . LET THEM START WITH CLEANING UP LOCATIONS AND DIRTY AREAS IN CITIES. TAKE LORRY LOADS ONTO THE HIGHWAYS SO THAT THEY CAN CLEAN UP WHERE OTHER DUMPED THE RUBBISH.

THE PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE ARE THAT THEY EXPECT THE GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE.EVERYTHING FOR FREE..HAVE THE PEOPLE BECOMING A NATION OF BEGGARS . WE WANT HOUSES . TOILETS ETC..

you find out there are around 10 people staying in a two room shack and their parents are not working, for survival they depend on the grants, one can't stop asking himself that why so many children if you're not working, WHERE THE FCKU IS THE MONEY TO SUPPORT THEM SUPPOSE TO COME FROM?!!!!
