where a hell is this criminal employer ? People ha reason to stay there and fight , in south africa at this time and age , who can work for R4000.00 a month , a grocer alone is R5000.00 plus , but they have to use this little for self clothing, family feeding, school kids, wife , housing needs etc. This doesnt make sense. They might be blamed for less education, failing to contain anger and arming during the protest. But come on! these are our people where are our morals? We cant blindly sell the souls of one of ours to slavery like this. This is unfair. Which planet are we living on?
May their souls rest in peace. Condolesces to their families. But africa has a long way to walk before we can see the light at the end of a tunnel.

Mathunjwa should be arrested he is the one who took them to the hill top, he is the one who promised them R12500 without consulting with the employers ,he is the one who caused the violence and for him to say he wanted to go and die with cdes is a lie. considering the size of this economy how do you promise a handman at a mine R12500 when jonior doctors are earning plus or minus the same. As a Union leader Mathunjwa does not grasp the fact that if( and only if it is possible) these guys where to get their 12500 there was going to be a nationwide unrest everybody will go on strike for more, of-course teachers, police officers, artisans (class one) and all the other middle class earners can not earn less than mine handmans. and neitherless there is no where in the world where handman are being paid that much

This is a tragedy people, a serious blemish in our country's history may I ask that we comment with due consideration. Papage I find your comments sad to say the least.

I don't understand how police can fire live ammunition at the protestors, the protestors themselves should bear the brunt of the blame for being armed and posing a threat to the police but I am not sure using live ammunition is the answer either. Either way this is a tragedy along the lines of Sharpville, it is really sad that our police are using live ammo but I suppose this is the legacy Bheki Cele left behind with his Shoot to K.ill war talk.

This is a mess all round, the mine should be shut down until this is resolved.

I wonder if this is the last nail in Zuma's coffin, with everything that has gone wrong but having a police force that kills its own people is unacceptable.

Some will argue that he is not responsible but it was under his watch that:

1. A police commissioner was involved in war talk directed at the nation,
2. Andries Tatane was killed, yes those responsible have been apprehended but the police service itself was not spoken to regarding what happened,
3. Just recently the use rubber bullets against civilians outlawed.

Logic decattes that one should ask if police are not allowed to use rubber bulllets then how are they supposed to control a rowdy crowd?

I certainly asked myself that question, did those who make these decisions?

What is the new commisioner saying about this mess or does she prefer an absent style of leadership just like our incompetent president.

MommaC is protecting status quo coz she's a beneficiary of the Owners. Look no further from UK and US, they started as a Round Table Group or better Anglo group. Cecil Rhodes is the 1st culprit or "white" thug who stole "mineral rights" from South Africa. He was followed by the Oppeinhemers, the very ones who funded the Rivonia trial, using ANC puppets ruling today to disrupt the apartheid regime under Verwoerd. They got a thug from Poland who asssassinated him while he was investigating how they got mineral rights. Nationalisation is a modern terminology of stealing mineral rights coz the government will protect these people.

I agree that what these guys are being paid is very low. But please don’t think the mine is making all that much. If you take the total running cost in to consideration with the soft price of platinum they are barely surviving. Why do you think some of the other mines are closing some shafts? To save costs. That means retrenchments. Hundreds of workers. The UNIONS want to force the mines to stay in operation. Financially they can’t afford to stay open. Mining is a see-saw business. One day up, next down. Have to save money in the UP to carry you in the Down. Unions don’t explain that to workers.
Rather work than not.
Not saying you must be a slave, but understand your industry before making unrealistic demands for wages.
Can’t wait to see how the ANC will do once they nationalise the mines

I fail to understand as to why mioners who had an illegal gathering and armed with illegal weapons would confront and charge at the police like that and expect the police to smile at them. They killed ten peolple including two(2) police men and still expected to be handled with warm hands as if its in the bedroom. I refuse to die with my firearm on. Just like the perpetrators, i have kids to look after. We absolutely have no leadership, NUM and AMCU have betrayed and misled the miners but above all, to our beloved government with its romance orintated allience, you have mastered the art of cheap and dibolic politics as explained by George Owen's Animal Farm. This too shall end. We will record this history so that the children of the victims would know how their parents were killed. Mr Ramaphosa don't you think you should have used your R2 million proactively prior the massacre?
