Protesters at Marquard and Moemaneng have set alight a vehicle and damaged another during protests, Free State police said on Thursday.
Captain Phumelelo Dhlamini said a group of people started to gather and block roads with stones and burning tyres at 7pm on Wednesday.
During the protest, one person was injured and a municipal vehicle was damaged.
Dhlamini said the R708 between Clocolan and Marquard was also blocked with stones.
A vehicle on this road was set alight by a group of people.
Police urged all motorists to use alternative roads.
Dhlamini said police were monitoring the situation and that re-inforcements were on their way.
It was not immediate clear why the protest started, however residents have previously protested against a lack of water and other aspects of service delivery.
About 20 people were arrested in July for public violence and for looting foreign-owned shops in town and in the informal settlement after handing a memorandum to the Setsoto local municipality.

i also support protesting, but not this kind of protesting where cars and property are damaged.another kind of protesting i dont get is when protesters vandalise their own area.......eg their own streets, throwing rubbish all over the road etc. Some, who after the protest are the ones who gonna come back and clean up (how does that make sense?)

LOLThis is like those pathetic signs that say 'Hijacking Hotspot". Why warn motorists? We aren't the ones who are breaking the law. Just go arrest the buggers.

MommaC, oooooohhhhh. I always thought those signs meant you are allowed to hi-jack there, you know, like the 60 kmp/h roadsigns means that's the speed you're allowed to drive there. You think maybe others got it wrong too, that's why we have so many hijackings there?Report Abuse
