Man dies in Cape protest
A man has died and a truck has been torched in violent protests in Khayelitsha, Cape Town
The Cape Times reported that the man was found, still alive, near a truck on Monday.
“We don’t know whether he was hit by the truck or if he was attacked. He died shortly afterwards,” Warrant Officer November Filander told the newspaper.
About 350 residents of the BM Section took to the streets on Monday morning to protest over houses and sanitation, forcing the closure of a section of the N2 highway.
They threw stones at police officers and passing vehicles, including five Golden Arrow buses. A bus driver was injured.
According to the report, 10 people were arrested and were due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Community leader Morris Sifo told the newspaper that residents had been living in dire conditions since 1987.
“It is not fair that we have to live in these conditions while other parts of the area receive continuous upgrades,” he said.

Another death that must be placed at the door of the ANCYL hooligans. These " service protests" are part of their plan to make the WC ungovernable, while things are far worse in some ANC provinces, that is clear. These young uneducated hooligans have no idea how to do things in a civilsed way. Where is the responsible leadership in the ANC to tell these young thugs that they are simply playing a destructive role and perpetuating the stereeotype that black people are better at breaking down than building up.Report Abuse

This is what you would call TREASON. When a bunch of terrorists come into your city, disrupt your services, destroy property...Call in the military and shoot them.

When did the 'right to protest' become more important than our 'right to life'?We have only recently had a tragedy where a bus ploughed into homes due to stone throwing and they immediately do it again. If they REALLY need to destroy life and property then they should burn themselves and their own shacks.

Delivery protests again! I thought WC was better as it's run by a different party. Even Zille can't deliver in her own province? Who do we vote for then?Report Abuse
