FIVE Tshwane metro police officers based in Mamelodi were arrested and suspended with immediate effect for taking a R1,000 bribe from a motorist.
The officers were arrested following a complaint by the motorist, who claimed that he was stopped by six officers in Garsfontein.
They accused him of driving under the influence of liquor, which he denied but was allegedly threatened with arrest if he did not give them money.
When he told them that he did not have cash the officers offered to accompany him to the nearest ATM where he allegedly gave them R1,000.
The incident took place during the early hours of Friday last week.
The motorist reported the matter at Villeria police station.
The motorist identified two of the officers, who were arrested on Wednesday and they in turn identified the other three.
The sixth officer is yet to be arrested.
