Selebi's release haunts minister

MEMBERS of Parliament have slammed the government's handling of the release of former national police commissioner Jackie Selebi on medical parole, saying the process followed has tainted the credibility of the entire system.

I mean why not! Jackie has the money and the power to buy himself off of prison and make it look like his out due to medical parole. Shabiar Shaik did it. Its a money and power thing, people better deal with it. I would also do the same if i were jailed and had the power to go out.

Yes people may doubt the process mara this is not another Schabir Schaik case, the old geezer is ill, if you know anyone suffering from kidney failure you will know that the man is ill he is on dialysis and that is nie pap and vleis, he is not playing golf, so I do not think he should suffer just because Msholozi did Schabir a favour. Schabir should be sent back inside as he is now fit to serve his sentence.

..... but his actions left many people dead anyhow.

You cannot possibly tell me that the crime rate in SA and the drugs in SA are not killing people. A lot of that is directly due to Selebi's conduct. He may not have handed the criminals the guns but he certainly handed them the information which allowed them to avoid being caught,

I doubt it, but at least they are not being given Interpol information any more by the HEAD of our police force.

Our justice system is turning into a joke. Criminals get let off or pardoned all the time. It is like the judges don't even have eyes to see what these people do to our country. Now why shouldn't I sell out and give our military secret information to the highest bidder? Not like anyone cares - as long as I don't pull the trigger, no problem.

ANC and the ANC led Govenment are leading double standards! Im sure there are other bed ridden prisoners who will never be given medical parole becuase they are not ANC members or not friends to Zuma. It is for this rsn and more than our country is faaaaar from what is called democracy becuase of brotherhood and exilehood.

@lindsay -I would put my life onit that Selebi and his co conspirititors are the reason for all The Nigerians defrauding our own people in this country TODAY ,tommorow and will continue to do so as we have a Mafia Elite running the country

You are a real muppet.
I am merely interested in how the goose and gander theory pans out. They made their crooked laws for their own ends and didn't even consider the wider implications. Now they sit with egg on their faces.

For your information, I think Derby-Lewis should have been hung before they lifted the ban on hanging murderers. That would have solved all the problems once and for all. Again, they changed the law for their own ends back then and Derby-Lewis became a consequence they didn't even consider.

Story of our lives. Politicians and Mgarajis who don't bother to use their braincells

What a farce our country has become. It's not a democracy, it's an oligarchy where those at the top can abuse their power with impunity as they know that they will not be held accountable for their deeds, and those unlucky enough to be caught red handed at least knows that the 'Good King' or (other chommies, sorry, I mean cadres) will ensure their release before too long.

How can we expect to deal with criminals, when the whole structure is crooked from the top down?
Our government has become one big rotten example of the Dunning-Kruger effect at work.

..... well Scott-Crossley was never convicted of murder and he never got out on a bad dose of fake-a-litus and the Waterkloof 4 (well only two really as the other two are still in prison) got out because they were under age.

Now perhaps you could tell me what that has to do with the law relating to medical parole? Or do you not understand what 'medical parole' entails?

Zuma must declare himself the worst leader this planet has ever seen. He makes decisions where and when its not necesary and when he is suppose to make a decisive decision he makes excuses. He hasnt said anything about the Limpopo books issue, but was quick to relieve Cele off his duties.

Yengeni served 4 months for a 5 year prison sentence.

As for Derby Lewis he will have to do more than just being ill, he must change his membership to that of ANC, change his skin colour to be black and finaly change his home language to ZULU. All this process will take more than his life, so he might as well forget.

We do not have any problem when everybody is given a medical parole by rule and procedure of legal and evident health reasoning! But however we do have a problem when the same equally inclined medical parole in terms of section 9 of the Constitution, is discriminatory in terms of political affiliation and friendship coupled with segregation in terms of a certain couler of our skins! We do not want to strategically replace the Group Areas Act with another form of totally unfair and illegal 'Comradeship' contaminated aroma in terms of politically quackmired rotten antics. We want to call ''our'' ANC Comrades to order by reminding them to stop advocating and protectively trying in fatal failure to defend none defenseless generally wrong antics thereby 'raping' our clearly defined clean Government correctional commitment! We would like to remind our cadres that the Government in terms of section 3(2)(c) and the Preamble of our Constitution belong equally to all South African citizens regardless of couler and political affiliation!

Chief this time is not about the race issue it is about fairness in the justice system you cannot get sick when you are about to approach the prison door Jackie is a crook just like Yengeni and shabir for as long as you are not a card carrying member of the ANC you deserve jail term, you don’t deserve a tender and or a deployment to municipalities that is the policy of the ANC

Hey stop winching winching on the issue for the release of sickling ANC liberation fighters who just made mistakes by being corrupt but did not go around killing black people as a hobby during apartheid and those whites are free in a free South Africa even to day and even refusing to blend as Africans.
Keep quite and dont compare the killer of Hani and corrupt Selebi. Surely these two do not match at all. The guy was suppose to be in 6ft down everlasting prison and now certain sector of sociaty are comparing the dead and the one in prison. Please wake up here. Why cant the family of the killer plead for his forgiviness from the family of Hani period. Let Hani's family assist in applying for his freedom not comparing. I think you need Mugabe to come and rule here for just one month and all this will disappear into the sea swiming not at the airport. I mean let him and his family apply on the merits in the constitution not comparing and making noise on Selebi.
