A Muslim man has been beaten to death in Ventersdorp, allegedly by two people who insulted him because of his beard, a family friend said on Wednesday.

Mohammed Fayaaz Kazi, 27, was with his father’s friend Anser Mahmood when he was attacked at a Chicken Licken outlet on Monday.

“Two white people... they called him [Osama] bin Laden in Afrikaans because of his beard...and then they called us k***rs,” Mahmood said.

“Fayaaz, he understood Afrikaans, and was arguing with them.” 

All four were thrown out of the fast food shop, and the fight continued outside.

“I asked why they were troubling him and he punched me,” Mahmood, 33, said.

“I don’t know what he hit me with. I was unconscious.” 

Mahmood was mostly hit in the face. Kazi was beaten over the head.

Mahmood said he did not know what object was used to attack Kazi as he was lying on his side.

“Nobody helped us,” he said.

Kazi was transferred from one hospital to another before dying at a medical facility in Potchefstroom from brain damage. His funeral was held on Tuesday.

Mahmood said a murder docket had been opened at the Potchefstroom police station. Provincial police spokesman Brigadier Thulani Ngubani could not be reached for comment.

Bin Laden was the founder of al-Qaeda, which the United States claimed was responsible for the September 11, 2001, suicide attacks on the country. He was killed by US soldiers in Pakistan on May 2, 2011.

@Sowetan, please allow me to vent my anger.

That province is full of racist dogs. No stone must be left un turned by police investigators in this case. From what i read and heard on radio,these people were assaulted during daylight. It can't be that there were no witnesses.If this incident was vice versa, there would be 50 I have clashed with the red necks few times when I drive down to that province, whether on the road or at filling stations. If there are terrorists in this country, let them go and practice their bombing skills in NW or FS, mainly in places where ''ka*****s'' are not allowed.

may his soul rest in peace,some of this white people are still cruel and especially in Venterdorp area they are pure racist I don't like some of this white they think they are better and they still control us with everything @ work they are all bosses no black person will make it to be a manager only them on those high seats give us a chance NO!!! they still rule this countfry I don't this aparthied will ever finish here we are still controlled by them with everything.

As a white Afrikaner I am ashamed by such deeds, and I hope these white trash get the strongest punishment possible.

People must please remember that the people who think and act like this are a small small minority, and must also remember that there are many violent crimes committed by bl.ack people against white people.
