Cops dragging their feet, says rape victim

A 22-YEAR-OLD Johannesburg woman is angry that five months after reporting her rape, police have not given her a progress report on the case.

The woman, of Cosmo City in northern Johannesburg, was raped and assaulted in March at Cosmo City while going to meet a friend.

She said she came across two men she did not know. One of them insisted she greet him, but she replied that she did not greet people she did not know.

The man slapped her and demanded money at gunpoint.

He then tied up her hands and feet, shoved a cloth in her mouth and drove her to the bushes near the Lion Park, where the two men assaulted her and demanded her bank card and pin code. They then raped her.

She reported the matter to the police at Honeydew.

Lucas Rametsi was arrested and charged with the rape, and police are looking for the other man, who is on the run.

Ministry of police spokesman Zweli Mnisi said what could have happened was that the investigation was still going on.
