A four-year-old girl died when she was hit by a truck in Denver, Johannesburg, police said on Tuesday.
She was hit when she ran into the road while her mother was walking her to school on Monday morning, said Constable Mpho Masakhane.
“Paramedics declared her dead at the scene,” she said.
The truck driver was not arrested, but a culpable homicide docket was opened.
A demonstration by a group of residents from Denver followed shortly after the accident.
They demanded the municipality build speed-humps on Main Reef Road, and alleged to have begun making the requests in 2011.

Is Denver a residential area or Business? I think we lost it right there, we turned our business areas into residential and our homes into shops and store rooms, that is why our growing is so slow and we remain poor and yet in busisness. To my knowledge Main Reef Road is a busy road that connect businesses to businesses, is not suporse to be a residential area.Report Abuse

Oh how horrible. That poor mother and the poor truck driver !What is with these communities? The kid ran onto the road and now they want speed bumps? Will they still want speed bumps when the ambulances need to come through there or the police are delayed because of the speed bumps.

I expect my maid to hold my child's hand when she take her to school that is rule number 1 but then most of the young mothers are careless look when they cross the robot, look at school kids on the road they just dont care about their safety most of the townships streets have been paved but they dont just want to walk on the pavementReport Abuse
