The government is planning a new R2-billion town in President Jacob Zuma's home village of Nkandla - and taxpayers will have to pick up half the tab

My hard earned money is going to build zumaville? This is not rural development they cant honestly do this why Nkandla out of all the rural areas in Mzansi they are turning this particular one into NYC?

What surprises us anyway!! Msholozi has demonstrated over and over again that he is in that position to grab as much moolah as possible! Oh no! He started even before he became the prez, so he is continuing where he left off, only this time he is doing it officially and with the permission of his henchmen in parliament. Well done msholozi sir, hope you can sleep peacefully when you know that you refuse to give the poor, under-paid government employees a mere 10% increase but can afford to build a town in your homestead. Count my vote out in the next elections!!

My bro we are facing a serious problem/challenge of black professionals in this country, we think we have professionals yet they cant think analytically, I 've read the story on Mail&Guardian, you can check it, all what is there is all about rural development its pity that Zuma has prioritised where he comes from.

Dont forget we have nine premiers around the country Zuma did nt say they must nt develop the areas where they were born, including prosperous CEOs, businessmen, Ministers, former Pres etc no one said they must nt upgrade areas where they come from, look at Thabo Mbeki where he comes from even a better place for his mom is nothing its better with Mandela he can visit his village and it has better facilities.

The problem I have with black professionals , is to see themselves as city girls/boys instead of upgrading where they come from , I dont understand this mentality of being proud about areas developed by wh.ites, why , is it because we blac.ks prefers/values innovation by w.hites, when Zuma is building the very same house Mbeki built at Houghton there is hoolaballoo , I think its time to fight for justice Zuma has had it enough.

The apartheid did huge damage in the minds of blac.ks we are even scared of our selves aare they suggesting that he must built that infrastracture at Sandton

I don't see anything wrong here, if I can become a president I will start in Newcastle and move the parliament there, then I will develop the whole of KZN after my home town is done then the rest will follow. Charity begins at home.
****************************************************
Corrupt leaders or despots, who were once revered freedom fighters always tend to do exactly that when they rise to power. Remember Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya used to say, "my people will get milk in the morning and your people will get milk in the afternoon", he (a Kikuyu) was referring to people of other tribes like Kalenjin (Arap Moi's tribe) etc.

once the DA is in power they will build more cyclist lines on the road for the white people in western cape and they will further improve their suburbs.

until we have a better opposition party, we are only stuck with DA as an option, because change is what is needed and we must make it happen in our life time.

ZONONO..

To all those who have the authority to vote in Mangaung, please make sure that this poppey must voted out now...

Geez, the more I read all the garbage written on this site and all the tribalism that is spouted, the more I feel that the only real solution is to divide this country up in to smaller independant countries ala Yugoslavia.

Honestly, I hear more meaningful and intellectual discussions in the playground at my childrens school! How are we supposed to prosper as a country when we are all so divided by such petty and meaningless points of view?

As long as this govt keeps up its rampant destruction of our education system, we are all doomed. None more so than the next couple of generations! Just because the majority have suffered in the past, doesn't mean we have the right to inflict the same on those that come after us - this mentality is our biggest liabilty as a nation! F@*K get over it and move on, if not for ourselves but for our children.

The department of rural development has said that similar initiatives are due to begin soon at May Flower in Mpumalanga and in Jane Furse in Limpopo.
The ANC cites these projects as other examples of planned rural development not linked to the president's homestead.

Yip, and my credit card balance is not linked to my spending.

Towns are organic, they grow on their own. Put up a decent hospital with a teaching facility, a clinic, a good school or three along with a decently run community centre and library - the town will grow on its own.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You made a good point my brother and I have to agree with you on this one. On the other hand I do not blame people for being unhappy about this. The person steering forward the development has a bad public reputation. Under his leadership, critical issues such as basic housing and sanitation have been ignored, while at the same time quality has been sacrificed for friendship in serious economic matters. How do you raise the standard of living for the poor blacks, while the other invisible hand is giving them inferior public services ? That city is going to fall victim of this syndrome, and the development cost is more likely to exceed the planned budget because we know how incompetent they can be most of the time. His cabinet has managed waste a lot of money building useless stadiums, leasing AMG's regardless of the poverty that surrounds us. All that he gave us is a big sporting event, cabriolets(toilets), e-tolls and probably a new city at Inkandla for strengthen his support base. Well done mr president..
