But the gun has nothing to do with the accident! anyone in KZN has a gun so the poor guy is protecting his own life as no one else would. Even the Premier himself, without a gun in KZN you are history!

@DjEp
you see, in relation to the gun, the charge is "possession whilst under the influence"...this you will only know about when you apply for a firearm licence and subjected to competency training. If you have obtained a gun unlawfully, you may not know that it is reckless to possess an arm whilst under the influence, a penable conduct

Two charges here: Drink-driving, and gross misconduct in public office. With a high profile job like that, you dont go drink-driving, and you do not carry a firearm that is only to be used in the line of duty, whilst your brain, vision and self -esteem is impaired. Not only should he be dismissed (without pay), he should be jailed for illegal possesion (if off-duty, the firearm licence does'nt apply) of a weapon and driving (probably) an official vehicle whilst under the influence and without permission

@Djep. The moment you shoot someone at the tavern whether you're provoked or attacked, you're guilty as charged for taking your gun there. The law prohibits guns at places of recreation where beer is consumed.
