Premier's driver arrested
He was over the legal alcohol limit and driving at 183km - report
The KwaZulu-Natal premier’s driver will appear in the Mthunzini Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of speeding and drunk driving, said the KwaZulu-Natal Road traffic Inspectorate (RTI).
The 42-year old man was driving on the N2 at Fairbreeze, near Mthunzini on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, on Tuesday when he was caught doing 183km/h in a 120km/h zone, said RTI spokeswoman Zinhle Mngomezulu.
According to the Witness newspaper, a breathalyser test revealed that he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.84g, several times over the legal limit of 0.05g per 100ml.
Mngomezulu said she would only be able to comment on the man’s blood-alcohol level when the results of blood tests were known.
She could not immediately confirm whether the Mercedes-Benz he was driving was his personal car or a state car.
Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize was not in the car at the time.
Mngomezulu said the man had been travelling from Pietermaritzburg to Mthunzini, which was 230km away by road.

1tsotsi, The difference between the guy in the Ferrari and the premier's driver, is that the driver was more than likely using a state vehicle which WE paid for, and he was drunk. Also, the Ferrari driver will take the consequences like a man, while the driver will duck and dive and blame and complain until the whole issue just goes away. Which it will. When government parasites are involved, their troubles always just magically "go away". If you're ok to keep paying for this type of gutless leech, knock yourself out.Report Abuse
